Sean Strickland mocks ‘rich man’ Dustin Poirier following depression admission

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland isn’t buying Dustin Poirier’s claims that he’s been depressed since his retirement and arrest.
UFC legend Dustin Poirier was arrested last month for public intoxication at Atlanta International Airport in a now-viral scene. After posting bail, Poirier faces up to a year in jail and/or a fine if convicted of the misdemeanor charge.
Poirier, who retired from Mixed Martial Arts following a loss to Max Holloway at UFC 318 last year, has repeatedly opened up about his inner struggles since hanging up his gloves. In his first interview since the airport arrest, Poirier delved into his recent mental health struggles and issues with alcohol since leaving MMA.
On the other hand, UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has repeatedly criticized those who claim they’re depressed in recent years. Amidst the ongoing conversation surrounding men’s mental health during Poirier’s legal troubles, Strickland taunted the legendary fighter for his recent remarks.

In a pair of recent tweets, Strickland lacked sympathy for Poirier’s recent depression admissions linked to his UFC retirement.
“Dustin ‘I’m depressed’ bro what? You’re rich and loved by thousands of people. You’re not allowed to be depressed,” Strickland said of Poirier.
“What you did is got kicked off a flight and tried to fight a cop, relax it happens to the best of us.”
Strickland went on to question the sincerity behind Poirier’s mental health struggles.
“I just cannot understand depression. There are kids dying of cancer going through chemo, they would give anything for one more day,” Strickland pressed.
“But you a grown a– rich man [looking] in the mirror and says I’m depressed. Tell me why you’re sad rich man? Lmao.”
As of this writing, Poirier hasn’t responded to either of Strickland’s scathing tweets.
Strickland reclaimed the UFC middleweight title by defeating Khamzat Chimaev earlier this year at UFC 328. He’s expected to return by the end of 2026, potentially in an immediate rematch with Chimaev.
