Dustin Poirier is “going to respond appropriately” to drunken arrest, says Johnny Eblen

Dustin Poirier recently found himself in trouble with the law when he was drunkenly arrested at an airport, but a longtime compatriot at American Top Team has come out to offer compassion. The referenced ATT fighter is Johnny Eblen, who clashes with Impa Kasanganay in a rematch for interim middleweight gold at PFL Austin on July 18th.
Poirier has publically put over Eblen, highly touting his skills on programs like the Joe Rogan Experience and the two ATT products clearly have a close rapport as well as mutual respect. When asked if he had talked to Dustin since the airport incident, Eblen said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“No, I haven’t talked to Dustin. I did shoot him a DM saying, “Hey, man. We all make mistakes. I love you though, and I know he’s going to make the right decisions to become better.” We’re all human. We all make mistakes. It’s all about how you respond to it, and I think he’s going to respond appropriately. Dude, as I watched the video, it was kind of funny, man [laughs]. It’s like I kind of saw myself a little bit and he was just a little drunk.”
Dustin Poirier isn’t thought of any differently by Eblen after the arrest: “Everybody makes mistakes”
Further expounding upon his thoughts regarding the Dustin Poirier situation with the law recently, Eblen continued [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Some of it’s on; you got to have friends around you that are going to help you out when you’re in a situation like that. I was thinking about it. If I was with a buddy and he was pretty drunk and he couldn’t get on a flight and I’m on that flight. I’m not flying. I’m going with my friend. I’m getting off the flight with him. I’m making sure that he’s good. Not to place blame on anybody, but sometimes situations like that can be avoided. It is what it.”
“Sucks that it became what it became and he got arrested, but I don’t think any differently of him. He’s a homie at heart and he’s a good person. He’s actually a good dude and everybody makes mistakes.”
