Gable Steveson plans to represent new age of heavyweights at UFC 329: “That’s gonna start with me”

Gable Steveson is set to make his UFC debut on Saturday, and he vows to spearhead the next evolution in heavyweight MMA.
Steveson has been matched up against Elisha Ellison on the UFC 329 prelims. It’s a big spot for Steveson, who will be competing on the same card headlined by Conor McGregor’s return fight. Steveson is used to the spotlight having won an Olympic gold medal in freestyle wrestling.
With much buzz going into Saturday, Steveson appeared on the first UFC 329 edition of “Embedded,” and he told fans that he is not the typical heavyweight. He is looking to represent a new era in the weight class.
“I think what people can be excited about for my UFC debut is someone that’s new with new power,” Steveson said. “A new face, new speed, new techniques to the heavyweight division. This is probably not the usual heavyweight that you may see, you know, the big and strong ones. This is the new and improved, fast and quick ones that are gonna change the game, and that’s gonna start with me.”
Steveson is off to a perfect 3-0 start in his pro MMA career. None of those bouts made it past the first round. His first pro MMA fight was a victory over Braden Peterson. Steveson followed that up with a 24-second finish over Kevin Hein. His longest MMA bout to date was against Hugo Lezama, but that also ended in a dominant win.
In addition to his three MMA wins, Steveson also competed for Dirty Boxing Championship. He knockout Billy Swanson in just 15 seconds.
Ellison has a slight MMA experience edge over Steveson with nine fights. His record stands at 5-2 with four knockouts and a submission. Ellison’s UFC debut ended in a first-round loss to Brando Pericic.
