Following a successful return to the Octagon against Bekzat Almakhan this past Saturday, Umar Nurmagomedov wants to settle things with Cory Sandhagen. Nurmagomedov and Sandhagen were set to collide back in August 2023, but Umar was forced to pull out due to an injury suffered during training camp. He hopes to have the fight rebooked, and even has a date in mind.

Tonight’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA 7 event was headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Junior dos Santos and Alan Belcher. Dos Santos (22-10 MMA), ended his 18-month hiatus last September at Gamebred Fighting Championship 5, where he scored a split decision victory over longtime UFC rival Fabricio Werdum. Prior to that win, the former UFC heavyweight champion was in the midst of a career-worse 5-fight losing skid.

The Octagon returned to Nevada for today’s UFC Vegas 87 event, an 11-bout fight card headlined by Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Shamil Gaziev. The highly anticipated heavyweight main event resulted in a TKO victory for Jairzinho Rozenstruik following the conclusion of round four. ‘Bigi Boy’ was able to stifle the grappling of Shamil Gaziev early and often in the fight and proceeded to pepper his powerful opponent with jabs and low kicks throughout the twenty-minute affair. After a lopsided five minutes in the fourth frame, Gaziev seemingly had no interest in continuing and the referee eventually stepped in and called a stop to the contest. It was a disappointing ending, but still a solid and impressive performance from the veteran.

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 87 event was headlined by a heavyweight bout featuring Jairzinho Rozenstruik taking on Shamil Gaziev. Rozenstruik (14-5 MMA) had entered the bout looking to rebound, this after suffering a submission loss to Jailton Almeida in his most previous effort last May in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to that setback, ‘Bigi Boy’ had earned a first-round knockout victory over Chris Daukaus (see that here).

Brandon Royval says he will be prepared to fight Alexandre Pantoja for the flyweight title at UFC 301 in Brazil in May. Royval picked up the biggest win of his career last weekend as he beat Brandon Moreno by split decision in the main event of UFC Mexico City in a fight he took on short notice. With the win, ‘Raw Dawg’ called for a trilogy with Pantoja in May as he was ready to make a quick turnaround.

Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has responded to Jake Paul. ‘Tarzan’ and ‘The Problem Child’ have been going back and forth for a few weeks now. Last month, Sean Strickland sparred with Rumble streamer Sneako, at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The influencer had been training boxing for a few months and decided to face the former champion. It went about as well as one would expect.

Taila Santos, much like most fighters in the organization today, came in through the Dana White Contender Series in late 2018. While she debuted with a loss against Mara Romero Borella, the women’s flyweight contender quickly found success.

UFC analyst Chael Sonnen has responded to Jorge Masvidal’s recent threat toward him. ‘Gamebred’ recently announced his intention to come out of retirement, and resume his fighting career. Jorge Masvidal famously promised to retire, with a loss to Gilbert Burns last April. The former UFC title challenger kept his word, after losing to ‘Durinho’ by unanimous decision.

The UFC reportedly was interested in having Khabib Nurmagomedov return at UFC 300. UFC CEO Dana White had promised to make UFC 300 a historic card, and many fans wondered if the promotion would get someone back like they did for Brock Lesnar at UFC 200. Ultimately, that didn’t happen, but former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed the promotion did reach out to his manager but he quickly shot it down as he confirmed he won’t fight again.

It goes without saying that his supporters absolutely adore him, and that he holds a special place in the history books in mixed martial arts.

Former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman says it stings that he never became a champ-champ in his UFC career. Usman was a dominant champion at welterweight as he defended his title five times. However, he made it clear he wouldn’t go up to middleweight to chase champ-champ status due to his friend Israel Adesanya being the 185lbs champion. With that, it ruled out any chance of Usman holding two titles at the same time as many of the greats have done.
