McGregor was ringside when Carvalho was TKO’d by McGregor’s teammate, which led the UFC featherweight champ to post this lengthy and extremely heartfelt message regarding the death of Carvalho on his official Facebook page.

Terrible news surfaced early Tuesday morning when the community was made aware of the death of 28-year-old Portuguese MMA fighter Joao Carvalho. Carvalho fought Straight Blast Gym fighter Charlie Ward at the TEF 1 event, which took place at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday night. Shortly after the fight that ended with Ward winning by TKO in the third round, Carvalho was hospitalized.

Although McGregor ultimately lost to Diaz by submission in their initial fight at UFC 196, many praised McGregor for his courage to fight in a higher weight class. “King Mo” opened up about “moneyweight” and how he has been doing it for years, but even he cannot take the claim of pioneering it all.

This time, the two former UFC light heavyweight champions will be competing as head coaches on the new season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America 3.” According to the UFC, “Team Liddell vs. Team Griffin is set to begin filming late spring in Buenos Aires, Argentina with a culminating finale programmed for November 5 in Mexico City at Arena Ciudad de Mexico.”
