Lavar Johnson sentenced to 5 years for horrific assault on girlfriend

Former UFC fighter Lavar Johnson made headlines several months ago when it was revealed that he brutally assaulted his girlfriend. Johnson allegedly slammed the woman’s head into the wall and ground before landing a barrage of knees and fists. During a court appearance in Fresno County, Johnson admitted to the incident, and despite friends testifying on Johnson’s behalf, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison according to ABC30.

It’s no secret that UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor would have made quite a bit of money for his welterweight rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 200. Unfortunately for everyone in the MMA community, McGregor refused to fulfill his media obligations for the event, and was unable to reach a deal with the UFC. Ultimately, McGregor was pulled from the card, and the rematch with Nate Diaz was scrapped. While a recent report estimated that the UFC stands to lose nearly $45 million for keeping mcGregor off the card, veteran referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy revealed on his podcast that McGregor himself missed out on quite a bit of money.

At a recent meet & greet with top ranked UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov, 3,000+ eager fans trashed a Reebok store while trying to push their way to the front of the line. Things got so out of hand that Nurmagomedov was forced to leave the meet & greet because of the chaos that was occurring. While a brief video has emerged showing the situation, Nurmagomedov himself has now released a statement regarding the incident via Instagram.

Tate wants to avenge her losses to former champion Ronda Rousey, and would love for it to take place at the UFC’s big event in New York City. “I think everything happens for a reason,” Tate said at the UFC 200 presser in New York (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “I told everybody I was going to beat Holly and I did, and I’m going to beat Amanda on the 9th, and I’m going to go on, and hopefully I’m going to see Ronda in Madison Square Garden. That’s going to be great.”

Nurmagomedov had been sidelined for two years before his return to the Octagon earlier this month at UFC on FOX 19, where he defeated UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher via 2nd round TKO.
