REPORT: 'Cyborg' still has ten more pounds to lose in 24 hours

The majority of this fight week’s discussion has centered on Cris ‘Cyborg’s’ weight loss as she prepares to headline her first UFC bout on Saturday in Brazil. Earlier in the week, it was reported that ‘Cyborg’ weighed in at 165 pounds for her 140 pound catch-weight fight with Lina Lansberg. Now just 24 hours away from officially weighing-in, MMA insider Ariel Helwani reports that ‘Cyborg’ is currently weighing in at 150 pounds with ten more pounds left to shed.

Conor McGregor found what he was looking for with his redemption win over Nate Diaz at UFC 202. McGregor was able to pick up a majority decision victory after five rounds of mixed martial arts fighting in the Octagon on August 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Following UFC 202, undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather put an end to all the talks of the heavily rumored boxing match with McGregor.

With the historic UFC 205 looking like it is having a hard time being put together, New Jersey’s Frankie Edgar announced his spot at UFC 205. “The Answer” posted a promotional piece featuring a featherweight bout between Jeremy Stephens and himself, set for November 12 at Madison Square Garden. Edgar captioned his post with excitement saying, “Boom! MSG Let’s gooooo! #UFC205”

The confusion over Eddie Alvarez’s next fight appears to be over, at least for now. First, Eddie Alvarez was set to defend his newly-won 155 pound belt against featherweight champion Conor McGregor at UFC 205 in New York City. Now, it appears Alvarez will take on Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 206 in Toronto instead.

Following the win, Johnson called out UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier for a highly anticipated rematch for the light heavyweight championship. Cormier verbally agreed to the bout, and with Jon Jones currently sidelined with his NSAC appeal, all signs pointed to the pair having a fight sooner rather than later.

Another New Yorker has been pulled from the UFC’s first foray to the Empire State. Long Islander Gian Villante, who trains out of Serra-Longo’s Acadamy with former middleweight champion Chris Weidman, will no longer be facing Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden this November. Villante, 31, joins Al Iaquinta and other New York natives who will not be competing on the historic card for one reason or another. Iaquinta was originally linked to a lightweight bout with Thiago Alves for UFC 205, but revealed on Monday that he never signed the fight agreement due to contract and bonus-related issues with the promotion.

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has had a bit of a rough time since becoming UFC welterweight champion. Woodley knocked out Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 201 in July, however according to ‘The Chosen One’ he hasn’t been celebrated as a champion. After winning the belt, Woodley revealed in an interview that racist fans had emerged and were frequently making racist comments to him on social media.

For some time, the expectation has been that UFC 205 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and featherweight kingpin Conor McGregor. Last night, however, UFC President Dana White and top lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov joined forces on Twitter to pull the plug on this long-rumored matchup. Instead, they said, it would be Nurmagomedov that would face Alvarez at UFC 205 – not McGregor.
