Tim Kennedy hasn’t set foot into the UFC’s octagon in almost three years after a controversial TKO loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 178. Now on the verge of UFC 205 at the historic Madison Square Garden, the Strikeforce and UFC veteran explained the reason of his return to MMA on Monday’s edition of ‘The MMA Hour’. When asked why he’s coming back now after such a long layoff, Kennedy (18-5) discussed the new-found significance of his victory over newly-minted middleweight champion Michael Bisping and how his return to the UFC came about:

As one of the few men to not just beat but finish featherweight champion Conor McGregor, Joseph Duffy has become a regular in the UFC’s lightweight division. Now 16-2 in MMA, the Irishman is 4-1 in the UFC with his lone loss coming by decision to Dustin Poirier. With one more fight left on his contract, however, Duffy was quite vocal about a pay increase on Monday’s ‘MMA Hour’:

“Last week, the UFC’s Fight Pass Twitter page made an egregious faux paux when they tweeted a link celebrating Nate Marquart’s 2012 knockout of Tyron Woodley for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight belt before the promotion was folded into the UFC. The tweet came on the heels of an announcement of a fight between Marquardt and Tamdan McRory, with the caption reading:

UFC 205, which is scheduled for November 12 in New York City, is drawing closer by the day. As it does, it continues to evolve into one of the best UFC cards of all time. The biggest fight on the card, unsurprisingly, is its newly announced main event, which will see Eddie Alvarez defend his UFC lightweight title against reigning UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Alvarez won the title in July by smashing the streaking Rafael Dos Anjos to a first-round TKO win. McGregor, meanwhile, won featherweight gold with a 13-second KO of Jose Aldo last December – though he’s spent his last two fights battling Nate Diaz at welterweight. If the Irishman is successful against Alvarez, he’ll become the first fighter ever to hold two UFC titles simultaneously.

UFC 205 finally has its main event, and it’s a banger. The card, which will go down on November 12 and mark the organization’s long-awaited debut in New York City, will be topped by a lightweight title fight between reigning lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, and reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor. News of this bout, which will give McGregor the opportunity to be the first fighter in history to own two UFC titles simultaneously, was broken by the ever-reliable Dizz (@TalkMMA) last night, and confirmed by the UFC shortly thereafter.

UFC 205, which will mark the UFC’s long-awaited debut in New York City, New York, is finally starting to take shape. Last week, the card grew with the addition of several dynamite match ups, including a strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, a women’s bantamweight bout between recent champ Miesha Tate and Raquel Pennington, and a featherweight bout between former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar and Jeremy Stephens. Then, last night, the card finally got its main event, as a long-rumored lightweight title fight between reigning lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and reigning featherweight champion Conor McGregor was finally made official.

Cris Cyborg’s journey on her dreadful weight cut to make the agreed catchweight of 140 pounds may have gotten more attention that her actual fight against Lina Lansberg at UFC Fight Night 95 over the weekend. With less than a week out from their fight, Cyborg stated on The MMA Hour that she was weighing around 165 pounds, meaning she had to drop close to 25 pounds in order to make the 140-pound catchweight limit.

USADA and UFC announce changes to Anti-Doping Policy arbitration rules

The Invicta featherweight champion had to drop an additional five pounds below her usual cut to 145 in order to make the catchweight limit and had to cut 25 pounds in less than a week.

Khabib Nurmagomedov has been demanding a lightweight title shot ever since he returned from a two-year layoff due to injury. During that time, Eddie Alvarez has won the 155 pound strap, and the Dagestani fighter has relentlessly pursued a fight with Alvarez ever since. Khabib took to Twitter on Monday and posted a photoshopped reference to the film ‘The Shining’, where he is the crazed axe-wielding villain and Alvarez is the cowering heroine.
