Dana White comments on Georges St-Pierre return rumors

While it’s been three years since former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre was in the Octagon, ‘Rush’ is reportedly closer than ever to returning to the UFC after his lengthy hiatus. Despite that, there has been a bit of a hiccup in St-Pierre’s return plans. New UFC owner Ari Emmanuel reportedly recently traveled to the Reebok HQ in hopes of negotiating a deal that would allow St-Pierre to wear Under Armour in the Octagon due to his direct deal with the brand, however they were reportedly unable to reach a deal.

When it was announced that Conor McGregor would be fighting Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight championship at UFC 205, rather than defending his UFC featherweight championship in a rematch against Jose Aldo, who secured a rematch with McGregor when he defeated Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 for the interim featherweight championship, Aldo requested his release from the promotion, expressing a lack of faith in the UFC. UFC President Dana White was quick to shut Aldo down, stating that the promotion would be able to book him a fight at UFC 205 as well. Despite that, Aldo fired back by saying that he doesn’t want a fight, and plans to retire from MMA so as to pursue a career in another professional sport.

This past weekend, the UFC hit Manchester, England, for UFC 204. The card was an action packed one that saw UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping make his first successful title defense over Dan Henderson in what was ultimately Henderson’s final fight before retiring. While Henderson dropped Bisping several times early in the fight, Bisping’s volume of significant strikes earned him a unanimous decision win.

After several reports regarding GSP’s return were released throughout the course of the past few weeks, St-Pierre himself spoke about the reports, saying that news regarding his return to the Octagon would be announced in a few weeks at the latest.

On November 12, the UFC will make it’s long-awaited debut in New York City with UFC 205. Given that this event marks the organization’s first trip to The Big Apple, it unsurprisingly sought to fill the card’s lineup with New York based fighters. One of those fighters was Wantagh, New York’s Al Iaquinta, who was expected to welcome Thiago Alves to the lightweight division on the card. Unfortunately, Iaquinta and the UFC did not see eye-to-eye in terms of payment, and so, the fighter eventually withdrew from his bout with Alves, and was replaced by New Jersey’s Jim Miller.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor may never fight in Las Vegas ever again. At his hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Monday for the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference water bottle fiasco against Nate Diaz and his team, McGregor was handed a $150,000 fine and ordered to 50 hours of community service for his involvement in the incident.
