On December 10, in the main event of UFC 206, Daniel Cormier will attempt to defend the UFC light heavyweight title against streaking contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Cormier will enter the bout having recently defeated middleweight great Anderson “The Spider” Silva in a last-minute, non-title light heavyweight showdown on the main card of UFC 200. Rumble, meanwhile, will enter the fight with three straight knockout victories behind him, having recently snuffed Jimi Manuwa, Ryan Bader, and most recently, former title challenger Glover Teixeira. Whoever emerges as the victor of this bout will stand out as the bona fide best light heavyweight currently competing in the UFC.

Earlier this year, the UFC was sold for a whopping $4 billion – quite an increase from the $2 million that Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta bought it for in the year 2000. The promotion was purchased by American talent agency WME-IMG. Since it purchased the UFC, WME-IMG has made several major moves. Some of these moves, such as its choice to sell small stakes of the promotion to celebrities like Ben Affleck, Conan O’Brien and The Weeknd, were quite exciting. Others, like its choice to enact a mass layoff of UFC staff, have been rather disheartening.

The former bantamweight champion will make this comeback opposite Amanda Nunes, the woman who now wears the division’s belt. News of Rousey’s long-awaited comeback drove the MMA community into a frenzy of excitement. Whether you love her or hate her, at least she’s fighting again.

A superfight between WMMA superstar Cris Cyborg, and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has always been just out of arms reach for MMA fans. Earlier this month, when UFC President Dana White announced that Rousey would be returning to the Octagon in December, over a year after suffering the first loss of her professional career at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193, White announced that in addition to returning for a championship fight with Amanda Nunes at UFC 207, Rousey was looking for a superfight with Cris Cyborg if she defeated Nunes at UFC 207.

Earlier this year, tragic news surfaced that Bellator MMA prospect Jordan Parsons had been struck by a vehicle in Florida. While initial reports regarding the situation, and what happened, were a bit scarce, it was then revealed that Parsons was in the hospital, where he was forced to have his leg amputated as a result of the accident. Following the announcement that Parsons had to have his leg amputated, it was then revealed that the young prospect was undergoing heart surgery after it was revealed that his heart was operating at just approximately 1/5 of its capacity.

On November 12, in the main event of UFC 205, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will challenge Eddie Alvarez for the organization’s lightweight title. If he’s successful in this massive showdown, he’ll become the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles simultaneously. There are very few fight fans out there who aren’t excited for this historic scrap. Not everyone is pleased with this booking, however.

UFC 207, which is scheduled for December 30 in glimmering Las Vegas, Nevada, is starting to look like an excellent card. On Tuesday, it was announced that Matt Brown will take on the talented Tarec Saffiedine at the event in an awesome welterweight showdown. Now, UFC 207 has grown by two more welterweight showdowns, and from the early vantage point, both look like they’ll be extremely entertaining.

There seems to be an uptick in contract issues with a few of today’s big names in the UFC. On Monday, Georges St-Pierre announced that he is now a free agent after being released of his contract with the UFC. Current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo is set to meet with UFC brass soon to discuss his desire to be released from his contract. Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold recently renegotiated his contract after he made it known that he was unhappy with the contract he was under. Fortunately for Rockhold, he came to an agreement with the UFC and spoke about his situation on the Submission Radio podcast recently.

Longtime UFC stand-out Urijah Faber still has plenty of fight left in him, and will be locking horns with Brad “One Punch” Pickett at UFC on FOX 22 in Sacramento on December 17. Faber will look to avoid his first three-fight losing streak in his entire career. “The California Kid” has dropped his last two fights to Jimmy Rivera and Dominic Cruz, making his bout with Pickett even more of a must-win situation.

The new owners of the UFC are apparently looking to clean house and are laying off between 60 to 80 employees, UFC insiders confirmed. The mass lay-offs follow recent reports of low morale at the UFC’s Las Vegas HQ, with one employee likening the atmosphere as “like a morgue”.

There seems to be a bit of confusion surrounding UFC star Nate Diaz and his weight. “Undisputed” sports analyst co-host, Shannon Sharpe said on a recent episode that Diaz could not make the lightweight limit of 155 pounds, even after Diaz has fought the majority of his career in the lightweight division.

Diego Sanchez will return to the octagon for at least one more fight when he takes on Polish leg-lock specialist Marcin Held on November 5 and UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City. Sanchez is coming off of the first knockout loss of his career after Joe Lauzon made quick work of him in the first round of their UFC 200 bout.

UFC president Dana White posted a video of the woman’s 115-pound champion training Muay Thai and some nasty standing elbows ahead of her title fight with Kowalkiewicz at UFC 205 on November 12.

On November 12, on the main card of UFC 205, former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman will look to get back on track after losing his title to Luke Rockhold almost a year ago. His opportunity to do so will come against Cuba’s Yoel Romero, a former Olympian who has not lost a fight since a 2011 knockout at the hands of Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. Though Weidman is clearly dead-set on this looming bout with Romero, he’s also keeping busy outside of his training schedule – and we’re not talking about his war of words with reigning middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
