A lightweight fight between Drakkar Klose and Lando Vannata took place during tonight’s UFC 226 prelims on FS1. Round one begins and Klose immediately comes forward with pressure. The fighters clinch against the fence and after a missed spinning elbow, Lando breaks free. Klose immediately rushes in again and presses Lando back against the fence. He is working hard for a double leg takedown but Vannata is doing a good job of defending. Lando breaks free but Klose continues to stay on him with pressure. The fighters clinch and Klose lands a pair of knees. Lando breaks free and lands a low kick. Drakkar with a nice kick to the body followed by a heavy low kick. He chases after Lando and lands a right hand. Klose pushes Lando back against the cage. He lands a knee and then Lando breaks free. Klose steps into the pocket and lands a low kick. Both men with a low kicks now. Drakkar lands a big right hand. Lando smiles but that one hurt him. Drakkar with another hard low kick. Just over one minute remains in the opening round. Lando goes high with a kick but Klose ducks under and then presses Lando against the cage. The fighters clinch and Klose lands some knees. Lando shares some knees of his own and now Klose is looking for a takedown. Lando won’t let him get it but eats a knee for his efforts. Klose with a left hand as they break. Round one comes to an end.

The current UFC interim welterweight champion made headlines last year in Sao Paulo, this after he called the country a “dump” and referred to the Brazilian fans as “filthy animals” in his post-fight speech following a lopsided decision in over Demian Maia.

A middleweight bout featuring streaking division contenders Brad Tavares and Israel Adesanya headlined tonight’s TUF 27 Finale event in Las Vegas. Adesanya entered the contest sporting a perfect 13-0 record while the Hawaiian, Tavares, came in at 17-5 overall.

The UFC 226 fighter salaries have been revealed and current UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic (18-2 MMA) will take home an event high $750,000 for his efforts on Saturday night. As for Miocic’s UFC 226 opponent, current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier (20-1 MMA), “DC” will pocket a cool $500,000 for the pairs highly anticipated super fight.

Earlier this week, unfortunate news struck the mixed martial arts world when ESPN announced that current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway had been forced out of his scheduled UFC 226 title fight with Brian Ortega. “Blessed” was hospitalized due to concussion-like symptoms and thus removed from this weekend’s highly anticipated UFC 226 pay-per-view fight card.

When UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was forced out of his UFC 226 co-main event title fight with Brian Ortega, the first question out of many fan’s mouths was ‘who is the UFC going to get to replace him?’ Former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor seems to have a problem with that initial reaction. On Thursday evening, McGregor took to Twitter to question the fan reaction to Holloway’s withdrawal. In a Tweet that was promptly deleted, he suggested that the first concern should have been champion’s wellbeing.

Last night, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) touched down in Washington DC with PFL 3. This event featured the opening rounds for the league’s welterweight and middleweight seasons, and just like their first two shows, it was an absolute thriller. In the main event, former Strikeforce middleweight champion and UFC welterweight title challenger Jake Shields was absolutely whooped by a relative unknown in Ray Cooper III. This massive upset came with an interesting footnote, as Shields had twice battled Cooper’s father, Ray Cooper II, going 1-1. So, this was not just “Jake Shields vs. Ray Cooper III” in the sense that Shields was fighting Ray Cooper the third. It was also Jake Shields vs. Ray Cooper III in the sense that it was Shield’s third fight with an opponent named Ray Cooper. Like I said… an interesting footnote.
