Three years ago today, UFC featherweight champ Conor McGregor hiked up the welterweight division for a compelling showdown with the veteran Nate Diaz. Diaz had stepped in to fight McGregor on a mere 11 days’ notice, replacing the injured Rafael dos Anjos, and was not given much of a chance against the seemingly unstoppable Irish knockout artist. Early on in the fight, it looked like Nate Diaz would be the latest recipient of a Conor McGregor striking clinic. The Stockton based fan favorite absorbed quite a bit of punishment from his Irish foe, and seemed to be in for a tough night.

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were supposed to fight at UFC 230 in November. Unfortunately, Poirier ultimately withdrew from the fight with an injured hip — although he recently divulged there may have been more to the story. Speaking with ESPN on Monday, Dustin Poirier was asked what he’d say to Nate Diaz if given the opportunity. The top lightweight contender, who battles Max Holloway for interim gold at UFC 236 on April 13, did not hold back.

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Nate Diaz was expected to square off with Dustin Poirier at UFC 230 this past November in New York. Unfortunately for fight fans, “The Diamond” suffered an injury in the lead up to the fight, which ultimately forced him to be pulled from the card.

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 234, middleweight legend Anderson Silva lost a decision to surging middleweight contender Israel Adesanya — but he’s not ready to hang up the gloves quite yet. Instead, Silva is hoping to return to the cage at UFC 237, which goes down this May in Curitiba, Brazil. Post-fight, the Brazilian reiterated his desire to fight on this card, and named Nick Diaz, who he battled to a no contest in 2015, as potential opponent.

Streaking UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier was briefly scheduled to return to the cage opposite Nate Diaz at UFC 230 in early November, but unfortunately, that plan was derailed when he sustained a hip injury that forced him off the card. At least, that’s what we thought. Responding to a fan on Twitter on Sunday afternoon, Dustin Poirier claimed that, by the time he withdrew from the card with a hip injury, Nate Diaz had already dropped out of the matchup himself.

Jorge Masvidal was briefly linked to a UFC 235 showdown with Nick Diaz, but that fight unfortunately fizzled out. All the same, Masvidal still has tremendous respect for Nick Diaz and his brother Nate, and is definitely interested in fighting both under the right circumstances. “Obviously, I want to fight Diaz, because they’re dogs,” Masvidal said on a recent episode of MMAjunkie Radio. “That’s what I really admire about them. When it was announced that Jon Jones would be allowed to fight at UFC 232 in California, despite trace amounts of turinabol turning up on several of his recent drug tests, several of his fellow fighters piped up, questioning the integrity of the UFC and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Jones’s arch rival Daniel Cormier was one of the first to do so, and now, fan favorite lightweight contender Nate Diaz has done the same. Apparently, Nate Diaz no longer plans on opening his door when USADA comes to collect samples.

Donald Cerrone had a tough fight last night against Mike Perry at welterweight. Ultimately, Cerrone prevailed and won the fight by submission in the first round, in which he broke Perry’s arm. However, after the fight, the winningest fighter in UFC history announced he would be moving back down to lightweight. ‘Cowboy’ then proceeded to callout current 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

UFC 230 was originally expected to be co-headlined by a lightweight contender bout between the streaking Dustin Poirier and the long-absent fan favorite Nate Diaz. Unfortunately, this fight fell apart after Poirier sustained an injury. While it was an injury that ultimately nixed this incredible matchup, Dustin Poirier says the bout almost fizzled out numerous times during the initial negotiations. That, he says, is because Nate Diaz is incredibly “hard to deal with.”

After Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 229, a post-fight brawl ensued. Nurmagomedov went after Bellator welterweight Dillon Danis, who was in McGregor’s corner. While that was happening, some of Nurmagomedov’s teammate’s attacked McGregor inside the Octagon. Since Saturday night, Nurmagomedov still has not received his fight purse. And, UFC President Dana White said if any of the people who attacked McGregor inside the Octagon are UFC fighters they would no longer be apart of the company.
