Dustin Poirier says negotiations for scrapped Nate Diaz fight were 'a huge headache,' but is willing to try again

Tom Taylor - October 22, 2018

UFC 230 was originally expected to be co-headlined by a lightweight contender bout between the streaking Dustin Poirier and the long-absent fan favorite Nate Diaz. Unfortunately, this fight fell apart after Poirier sustained an injury. While it was an injury that ultimately nixed this incredible matchup, Dustin Poirier says the bout almost fizzled out numerous times during the initial negotiations. That, he says, is because Nate Diaz is incredibly “hard to deal with.”

Dana White not interested in booking Nate Diaz unless he's 'absolutely dying to fight'

James Lynch - October 19, 2018

Despite the news that Dustin Poirier will not require surgery on his hip, it doesn’t appear like a rescheduled matchup against Nate Diaz is in the cards. That’s according UFC President Dana White who spoke with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto regarding the update on Poirier’s injury. On the heels of good news on Poirier's hip, I asked UFC president Dana White if Poirier/Diaz is a fight he'd want to re-book.

Nate Diaz tells Dana White 'fire me' instead of Khabib Nurmagomedov's teammate

Cole Shelton - October 11, 2018

After Khabib Nurmagomedov defeated Conor McGregor at UFC 229, a post-fight brawl ensued. Nurmagomedov went after Bellator welterweight Dillon Danis, who was in McGregor’s corner. While that was happening, some of Nurmagomedov’s teammate’s attacked McGregor inside the Octagon. Since Saturday night, Nurmagomedov still has not received his fight purse. And, UFC President Dana White said if any of the people who attacked McGregor inside the Octagon are UFC fighters they would no longer be apart of the company.

Conor McGregor hopes to rematch Nate Diaz for 165-pound title

Tom Taylor - October 4, 2018

Conor McGregor feels he owes Nate Diaz a rematch. No matter the outcome of his UFC 229 title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov, the Irish superstar seems determined to give Diaz that rematch, the same way Diaz gave him the opportunity. In fact, McGregor feels that his rematch with Diaz could serve as the inaugural title fight for a yet-hypothetical 165-pound division — something Diaz has been very vocal about himself.

VIDEO | Nate Diaz 'not excited at all' to be making return at UFC 230, 'I'm stuck in this sh*t'

Drake Riggs - October 1, 2018

“We’ll see [if I return at UFC 230], the ball’s in their court. We’ll see. I’m training to fight though, for sure. I’m trying to fight. They don’t want Dustin Poirier to fight at [165-pounds]. I’m like, ‘what the f*ck?’, alright well, who do you guys want then? Whoever wants it come get it. If they’re (UFC) trying to have me headline Madison Square Garden they don’t got nobody else. But they don’t want Dustin to fight so I’m down for whatever they want. All comers, bring it the f*ck on. No lames though.

Dustin Poirier explains why he decided to take Nate Diaz fight rather than wait for a lightweight title shot

Tom Taylor - September 14, 2018

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier has earned a title shot. At this point, that’s pretty much undeniable. With UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov booked for a headline-dominating UFC 229 title fight with Conor McGregor, however, Poirier was left with two choices: wait for a shot at the winner, or take another fight in the meantime. Dustin Poirier chose option B, and accepted a UFC 230 fight with Nate Diaz. If he wins this fight, of course, it will only reaffirm that he deserves a fight with the Nurmagomedov-McGregor winner. Yet there is a real possibility that Poirier loses this fight, which would effectively disintegrate his claim to the next title shot.

Bruce Buffer backtracks on Nate Diaz comments, clarifies on what he meant by "bow"

Tom Taylor - August 27, 2018

Over the weekend, UFC Octagon announcer Bruce Buffer made some comments about lightweight contender Nate Diaz. Buffer explained that, in his opinion, Nate Diaz’s bellicose attitude toward the UFC is unwarranted. In fact, he said that he felt that Diaz should “bowing” to UFC President Dana White. “Nate, I heard you made 7 or more million dollars in your last fight,” Buffer told TMZ. “I don’t want to hear you complaining about being under promoted by the UFC. You should be thanking the UFC and bowing to Dana White every time you see him. [Endeavor co-CEOs] Ari Emanuel, Patrick Whitesell.”

Bruce Buffer thinks Nate Diaz should be "bowing" to Dana White, not complaining

Tom Taylor - August 26, 2018

Nate Diaz is not shy about his gripes with the UFC. Over the course of his unforgettable career, the Stockton-based star has repeatedly butted heads with the promotion and its key decision-makers, oftentimes resulting in prolonged absences from the cage. In the opinion of UFC announcer Bruce Buffer, Nate Diaz’s gripes with the UFC are unwarranted. In fact, Buffer thinks Diaz should be grovelling at the feet of the UFC brass.
