The UFC’s 25 Anniversary event in Denver left fight fans with several amazing moments etched into their psyche. One of them of course being the devastating arm bar executed by Colorado native Donald Cerrone against former teammate Mike Perry. Following the submission loss against Cerrone, Perry has been nothing short of gracious. Speaking with BJPENN Radio earlier this week, “Platinum” gave an update on the condition of his arm, and what went wrong in regards to game plan execution.

Earlier this month, in the co-main event of the UFC’s 25th anniversary show in Denver, Colorado, welterweight knockout artist “Platinum” Mike Perry stepped into the cage with long-time contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Unfortunately for Perry and his many fans, this fight didn’t go as planned. Instead, he was forced to tap to a Cowboy armbar in the first round. Heading into this fight, Mike Perry says he spent a lot of time sharpening his kickboxing arsenal with the elite coaches and training partners at JacksonWink MMA in Albuquerque. Even though he didn’t get the result he wanted against Cowboy, he says he’s happy with the striking improvements he showed in the fight.

“Platinum” Mike Perry’s long awaited scrap with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone didn’t go quite the way he planned. Instead, after grounding the fight in the first frame, Perry was forced to tap out to a Cowboy armbar. While this is of course not the outcome Mike Perry was hoping for, he seems to be treating it as a learning experience. In the day since the fight, the fan favorite welterweight has been busily assessing the setback on his social media channels.

A welterweight fight between dangerous strikers Donald Cerrone and Mike Perry co-headlined tonight’s UFC Fight Night 139 even in Denver. Donald Cerrone (33-11 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a unanimous decision loss to surging welterweight contender Leon Edwards at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Singapore. Prior to the setback, “Cowboy” was coming off a spectacular first-round finish of Hawaiian Yancy Medeiros.

Earlier this week, we were hit by the unfortunate news that Saturday’s UFC Denver card has lost one of its best matchups: a flyweight tilt between former title challengers Ray Borg and Joseph Benavidez. Borg withdrew from the matchup with an illness. Mike Perry, who trains under the same roof as Ray Borg at JacksonWink MMA, however, isn’t buying that story. He says that the flyweight is faking his illness.

On Wednesday afternoon, ESPN reported that the UFC and Singapore’s ONE Championship are closing in on a history-making fighter trade. This potential trade would see ONE Championship send its former welterweight champion Ben Askren to the UFC, and the UFC send its former flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson to the Singapore-based promotion. It did not take long for the MMA community to begin imagining matchups for both fighters in their new potential homes. Ben Askren himself, however, feels like the UFC welterweight division has gone silent since the news of his possible arrival surfaced.

This, of course, will not be the first time the two welterweight fan favorites have met. Earlier this summer, the pair got some sparring in in, both at JacksonWink MMA, and at Cerrone’s BMF Ranch.

On November 10, on the main card of UFC Denver, “Platinum” Mike Perry will collide with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in a welterweight matchup that has fight fans drooling. Interestingly, the pair were briefly linked to a fight back in July. At the time, Perry was booked for a UFC 226 fight with Yancy Medeiros. When Medeiros withdrew from the fight with an injury, Cowboy was briefly discussed as a replacement opponent.

For a moment in late 2017, it looked as though Darren Till and “Platinum” Mike Perry might become mortal enemies in the perilous UFC welterweight division. Since then, however, their rivalry has blossomed into a mutual respect that borders on a bromance.  Earlier this month, while visiting Los Angeles for the UFC’s 20th Anniversary Press Conference, the two welterweights got some face-time in. Apparently, they even got a bit of sparring in — that was after Darren Till realized Mike Perry hadn’t invited him to the spa.
