Louis Smolka expects to get back into the win column in a big way. At UFC Vegas 14, Smolka is set to take on Jose Quinonez in a crucial fight for the Hawaiian. He is coming off a submission loss to Casey Kenney and since then spent the last couple of months putting on weight to get more acclimated to bantamweight.

The future of the UFC’s flyweight division is murky. It was previously reported that the division was going to close down at the end of 2018. However, that was not the case. Rather, the division stayed on, and headlining the first card of 2019 was a flyweight title fight. Although the fight was considered a ‘superfight’ given TJ Dillashaw was moving down in weight to take on Henry Cejudo.

UFC 219 Results: Matheus Nicolau defeats Louis Smolka

A flyweight scrap between Matheus Nicolau and Louis Smolka kicked off tonight’s UFC 219 prelims on FS1 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Round one begins and Smolka lands a good kick to the body. Matheus steps into the pocket and lands a heavy left hook. Smolka circles out and then comes forward with a jab. Nicolau counters with a nice right hand over the top. Smolka responds with an uppercut and then a hard kick to the body. Matheus circles out and then leaps in with a left hook that sends Smolka crashing to the canvas. Nicolau immediately jumps on the Hawaiian with some heavy punches. Smolka scrambles but Matheus winds up in full guard. After another scramble Smolka is back to his feet. Once again Nicolau lands a leaping left that floors Smolka. This time Matheus follows Louis to the ground and locks in an arm triangle choke. Somehow Smolka is able to escape and get back to his feet. Nicolau with another big left hook followed by some body shots. Smolka attempts to circle out but gets dropped from another hard left hook. Nicolau jumps on Smolka but winds up in an armbar. The horn sounds to end round one.

UFC on FOX 24 Results: Tim Elliott defeats Louis Smolka (Highlights)

A flyweight scrap between Tim Elliott and Louis Smolka kicked off tonight’s UFC on FOX 24 prelims on FS1. Round one begins and Elliott immediately shoots in and scores a quick takedown. He locks up a guillotine choke on Smolka and uses the submission to move to side control. Louis scrambles and is able to get back to his feet. Tim greets Louis with some knees. Smolka breaks free and circles out. He moves forward and scores a takedown. Elliott pops right back up however and then scores a takedown of his own. Smolka searching for a kimura. He uses that to get back up to his feet. Elliott with another takedown. Smolka scrambles and gets to top position. Another reversal and Elliott is back on top. Another scramble and the fighters are back on their feet. Elliott immediately dives in and scores yet another takedown. He moves to side control and begins raining down some hard elbows. Louis is cut and bleeding. He scrambles and winds up on the back of Elliott. He lands some solid shots from the position. Elliott is able to get back up to his feet as the horn sounds to end round one.

Louis Smolka mocks Sergio Pettis, internet responds

This week, unfortunate news surfaced that #15 ranked UFC flyweight Sergio Pettis had been forced to withdraw from his ‘UFC Fight Night: Portland’ scrap with #9 ranked flyweight Louis Smolka. Pettis’ head coach, Duke Roufus, broke the news via Instagram, revealing that ‘The Phenom’ had suffered a minor injury in training that would prevent him from fighting on Saturday. In addition, Roufus went on to call the injury a “speed bump”, claiming the injury wouldn’t take long to heal.
