Lerone Murphy recalls dropping Movsar Evloev in sparring ahead of UFC London main event

Lerone Murphy is quite familiar with Movsar Evloev ahead of their UFC London main event.

Murphy and Evloev are set to headline UFC London on Saturday in a pivotal fight at featherweight, as the winner will get the next title shot. Although both are undefeated, the two trained together in the past, and Murphy said he dropped the Russian in sparring, but he doesn’t think it matters ahead of their fight.

“We have trained together in the past,” Murphy said to UFC Europe. “It was a long time ago, to be honest, so I’m not taking anything away from that.”

Evloev, meanwhile, confirmed Murphy did drop him in sparring, and he plans to get his lick back at UFC London.

“Honestly, until he posted that screenshot, I didn’t even know that it was him,” Evloev said about Murphy dropping him. “It was eight years ago in a sparring session when I was in Thailand. One guy, as it turns out, it was Murphy, he took a moment and landed a shot to my liver. Such situations happen. I’m even glad he posted it because I didn’t know it was him. Now I know who to settle it with.”

Murphy didn’t want to get too much into the sparring incident, despite being the one who dropped Evloev. Yet, the Brit made it clear that their past training sessions don’t matter to Saturday’s result.

Although Murphy enters UFC London as the underdog, he has plenty of confidence that he will be able to get his hand raised. And, if he does get the win, Murphy expects to get a title shot.

“I think this fight should have been for the title, really, but it’s a massive fight, and I think the winner goes on to be champion for sure,” Murphy said to MMAJunkie.

Murphy and Evloev are both undefeated, so the stakes are high for the UFC London main event.
