Josh Emmett confident he’ll finish Kevin Vallejos at UFC Vegas 114 to re-enter title conversation: ‘One-way trip to the top’

Josh Emmett is planning on turning back the clock in the main event of UFC Vegas 114 on Saturday.
Emmett is set to headline the Fight Night card against Kevin Vallejos in a pivotal fight at featherweight. Although Emmett is entering the bout as a sizable underdog, he has confidence that he will be able to get a big stoppage win to make a statement.
“Kevin’s great, he’s a good fighter,” Emmett said at UFC Vegas 114 media day. “He’s not going to show me anything I haven’t seen before. I just have to keep my chin down, hands up, move, take it minute-by-minute, round-by-round, and the finish will come.”
If Emmett can get a stoppage win, it would be a statement win. And, it would put him right back in the title conversation. Although Vallejos doesn’t have a huge name like some of Emmett’s other opponents, he expects this to be a fan-friendly fight, and one that could lead to a bonus.
Josh Emmett is confident he can become champion
With Emmett confident he can pull off the upset at UFC Vegas 114, he knows his time as a title contender isn’t done.
Instead, Emmett believes that with a win, and especially a finish, he’s right back and closing in on a title shot at 41 years old.
“I’m just delusionally optimistic now,” Emmett said. “I know exactly what I can do and what I can achieve. I can compete with the best in the world. And I’ve showed it time and time before.
“I have the same mindset. I still want to be a world champion. I’m going to be a world champion. But I just have to go out there, be me, get my hand raised, and then we’ll slowly work our way back to the top. I’m on a one-way trip to the top, and I don’t care who’s coming with me.”
Josh Emmett enters the bout coming off a submission loss to Youssef Zalal. He’s 19-6 as a pro and on a two-fight losing streak as he dropped a decision to Lerone Murphy after scoring a KO win over Bryce Mitchell. Emmett is ranked 11th at featherweight.
