Jorge Masvidal reacts to ‘rat’ Colby Covington’s massive lawsuit stemming from 2022 attack

Jorge Masvidal responded to Colby Covington’s $100k lawsuit which cited physical, emotional, and mental damage suffered in a 2022 attack.
Despite being more than four years removed from their UFC 272 main event clash, UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington remain at odds, with a potential resolution nowhere in sight.
Covington defeated Masvidal by unanimous decision at UFC 272 in what was largely a dominant performance by the former American Top Team-Florida standout. Covington and Masvidal went from best friends/teammates, to heated rivals in a span of a few years.
Their rivalry consisted of personal attacks and physical confrontations in and out of the Octagon, with Masvidal attacking Covington outside of a Miami-area restaurant just days after UFC 272. Covington suffered multiple facial injuries as a result of the incident.
Covington recently filed a massive civil lawsuit against Masvidal seeking over $100k in damages consisting of ‘bodily injury, disfigurement, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, and the inability to earn money’. Masvidal was arrested in 2022 and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge after agreeing to a deal with the prosecution.
Jorge Masvidal addresses Colby Covington’s lawsuit in discussing past UFC rivals
In a recent episode of Deep Waters, Masvidal reacted to his latest legal battle with his longtime teammate and former friend Covington.
“For the most part, I get along with everybody,” Masvidal said.
“Everyone that I fought, it’s like I’m cool with them afterwards. If I see them, I share a meal with them. I’ll f****** hang out, talk some s***.
“But just one rat-a** m***********, it’s literally a rat. I shouldn’t even say his name because he’s already suing me,” Masvidal continued. “Colby Covington’s the only one I really never messed with like that.” (h/t MMA Fighting)
Masvidal retired from Mixed Martial Arts following a loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. He’s targeting a return to the Octagon later this year and is in active negotiations with UFC CEO Dana White and the promotion regarding his comeback.
Covington hasn’t fought since a TKO loss to Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa in December 2024. After missing out on the upcoming White House card, Covington’s UFC future remains uncertain.
In the meantime, Covington and Masvidal will likely remain at odds well after their combat sports careers, and don’t be surprised if things pop off between them in the cage again.
