He has been suspended again. He’s mired in controversy for drug abuse. Your issues are tied to steroids, performance enhancers. You don’t get a platform when you’re like that. It’s because of Jones’s indiscretions outside the cage — namely a hit-and-run, and his purported abuse of both recreational and performance-enhancing drugs — that he has not been able to call himself the undisputed champion for more than a few moments since early 2015. All the same, Jones resides amongst the best fighters in the history of mixed martial arts, and his resume is almost unrivalled. For these reasons, he still considers himself the true light heavyweight champion of the UFC.

Earlier this week, former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell announced that he’s going to be returning to the cage, and that he’s hoping his comeback will ultimately lead him to Jon Jones. Given that Liddell, now 48, has not fought in eight years, and that Jones is perhaps the greatest fighter of all time, Liddell’s ambition was met with immediate and widespread criticism. Much of that criticism came from Jones himself, who quickly assured he’d be happy to whoop Liddell anywhere, any time.

One of the topics that came up, unsurprisingly, was troubled former champion Jon Jones, who Gustafsson lost a close and controversial decision to in the year 2013. On the show, Gustafsson assured that, should he and Jones meet again in the future, he’ll come out on top. Evidently, Jones caught win of these comments, as he quickly went after his Swedish rival on Twitter.
