Dana White: ‘The whole Jon Jones thing drives me crazy’

Jon Jones, Israel Adesanya

July 29th, 2018 will mark a full year since Jon Jones last competed inside the Octagon. And his situation has still yet to get a clear resolution.

The 30-year-old 22-1 former light heavyweight champion just hasn’t been able to avoid troubles outside the cage since 2015. The spiral began with the infamous hit-and-run incident that led to the first stripping of his title.

Two fights and two failed drug tests later, Jones remains sidelined.

Many believe that Jones has just wasted away his clear potential with all of these incidents and the UFC President, Dana White is one of them as he said on the MMA Roasted podcast recently.

“The whole Jon Jones thing drives me crazy. Honestly, Jon Jones, he’s the greatest of all time, he’s the greatest to ever do it.

The thing that’s really frustrating is, imagine if this guy tried. Imagine if he tried just a little bit. Just imagine how incredibly amazing he could’ve been. He could’ve been the biggest star ever.

God knows what he would’ve accomplished in the light heavyweight division and then in the heavyweight division. Maybe he would’ve had a title defense record at light heavyweight that would’ve never been broken and the endorsements that he could’ve f*cking… everything that guy could’ve been is unbelievable.”

Before Jones first had his title stripped in 2015 he had already broken the title defense record at light heavyweight with eight consecutive defenses.

Now here in 2018 and Jones’ future is unclear. There remain possibilities and rumors of the UFC having interest in a heavyweight bout between him and former UFC champion/current WWE star, Brock Lesnar.

How good a possibility it is that we end up seeing that fight is anyone’s guess. Especially since USADA has yet to make a decision on Jones and Lesnar is still with the WWE as one of their champions.
