Jon Jones reveals he was offered to headline UFC 300 just a few days ago.

UFC CEO Dana White has promised to make UFC 300 a historic card, but with the event just two months out, the promotion still doesn’t have a main event. The hope was that Dricus du Plessis would turn around and defend his middleweight belt against Israel Adesanya, or perhaps Conor McGregor could return in the main event.

However, speaking to Submission Radio, UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones revealed Hunter Campbell called him a few days ago to see if he could headline UFC 300 on April 13.

“I did. I got a call from Hunter Campbell, one of the head lawyers of the UFC, asking me (about UFC 300). He said, ‘Jon, I know it’s only nine weeks away, but if there’s any chance you’re feeling up to it, man, it’d be awesome news for the community that you’re coming back and headlining one of the biggest events ever. And as honored as I am for the opportunity, I just don’t think I’ll be ready. I just don’t. I’m getting up there in age and I only have a few more events left and I want to give those events my all and make sure that I come back 100 percent,” Jon Jones said to Submission Radio.

Had Jon Jones been able to return at UFC 300, having him as the main event would have solidified the card. He would likely have been facing Stipe Miocic, which would have added even more star power to the historic event. However, Jones is rehabbing from his torn pec, as well as recent elbow surgery.

But, with Jones saying he won’t be ready, it’s uncertain who will be headlining UFC 300 despite the card happening in just two months.

As of right now, UFC 300 is currently as follows:

  • Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway
  • Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan
  • Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic
  • Calvin Kattar vs. Aljamain Sterling
  • Holly Holm vs. Kayla Harrison
  • Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller
  • Sodiq Yusuff vs. Diego Lopes
  • Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage
  • Jessica Andrade vs. Marina Rodriguez
  • Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt
