VIDEO | UFC legend Demetrious Johnson goes toe-to-toe with Khamzat Chimaev

Former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is used to being the smaller man in a lot of his sparring sessions. However, it’s not often we see him dwarfed by a training partner like he was during a recent meet-up with Khamzat Chimaev.

Johnson, who will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame this summer, lined up with reigning middleweight champ Chimaev at Santo Studios in California. As expected, they hit the mats for some training together. The size difference between them was quite stark—then again, it’s not often you see a natural flyweight and a very big middleweight side by side.

Unsurprisingly, Johnson and Chimaev aren’t sparring hard in this clip. In fact, they’re really just drilling some clinch technique. That being said, it’s still pretty amazing to see these two train together.

Johnson, after all, is one of the greatest fighters of all time. At the height of his UFC dominance, he defended the flyweight belt a record-setting 11 times in succession, finishing the likes of Joseph Benavidez, Kyoji Horiguchi, and Henry Cejudo in that time. He later made a jump to ONE, where he once again became a title-holder in a three-fight championship series with Adriano Moraes.

Chimaev, meanwhile, is one of the most dominant fighters in the UFC right now. The middleweight king is 15-0. He has already beaten the likes of Dricus Du Plessis, Robert Whittaker, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Holland, and Gilbert Burns. The great majority of his wins have been incredible one-sided. He’ll look for another impressive victory when he defends his belt against former champ Sean Strickland at UFC 328. That one goes down on May 9 in Newark.
