Dada 5000: “I’m not a full-time fighter”

By bjpenndotcom - April 14, 2016

At Bellator 149, Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000 put on one of the least impressive fights in the history of MMA. The fight drew extreme amounts of criticism from not only fighters, but also fight fans.

After the fight however, it was revealed that Dada 5000 had suffered from kidney failure during the fight, and that his heart had stopped twice.

Dada was placed in critical condition overnight following the fight, but has remarkably made a full recovery.

On the Dan LeBatard show, Dada explained what went wrong in his preparation for the fight. MMAFighting has the quotes:

“I probably pushed myself. Instead of taking a couple months, I probably double-timed it,” Harris said. “So I wouldn’t say (I cut weight) poorly. I think that my body was not used to that, because I’m not a full-time fighter. So I don’t fight regularly. I’m a promoter, I’m a matchmaker, I do a lot of things inside my organization with BYB and inside the backyard.”

“I’m a part-time dude, so I fight like every couple years. So at the end of the day, I think that my body having so much time being off, and to push it from zero to 60, that could be something to focus on.”
