Dana White shuts down Amanda Nunes vs. Cris Cyborg immediate rematch

By Tom Taylor - December 30, 2018

Amanda Nunes’ 51-second knockout of long-time featherweight champion Cris Cyborg was about as one-sided a fight as you’ll get in mixed martial arts. Yet the incredible run of dominance that preceded this loss for Cyborg has many members of the MMA community calling for an immediate rematch between the two Brazilian juggernauts. Cyborg, they feel, deserves the opportunity for to redeem herself.

Cris Cyborg, Amanda Nunes

UFC President Dana White doesn’t seem to share this opinion — at least not right now.

Speaking at the UFC 232 post-fight press conference, the UFC boss shared his disinterest in an immediate rematch between Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes.

“I don’t think you do,” he said (h/t Full Contact Fighter). “It was a pretty convincing win.”

Amanda Nunes, meanwhile, admitted she isn’t sure what the future holds after her incredible defeat of Cyborg. Now the champion in both the featherweight and bantamweight divisions, she has no shortage of options.

“Honestly, I think what I went through in this camp was a lot,” she said. “Putting all this weight back and training heavy with those guys at the gym.

“We’ll see. You never know. Let me go back home and talk to Dana White to see what he thinks. But soon you guys are going to know.”

Do you think Cris Cyborg deserves an immediate rematch with Amanda Nunes?
