If the Irish champion passes this mammoth test, however, it’s difficult to say who will be next for him. Michael Chiesa, who is one of the frontrunners in the lightweight division, could well find himself in the cage with McGregor in the near future. Were this to happen, The Ultimate Fighter winner is confident he’d win for one reason in particular. At 6’1, he’s just a much bigger fighter than McGregor.

With talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match currently dominating headlines in both the MMA community and the boxing community, everyone wants a piece of the action! To kick off 2017, Mayweather made McGregor an offer to fight for $15 million. UFC President Dana White was quick to make an appearance on ‘The Herd’, where he made Mayweather a formal offer of $25 million to fight, explaining that the pair could discuss how the PPV sales would be split. Mayweather was quick to respond, calling White a “comedian” for what he believed to be a low-ball offer.

This week, it was announced that top ranked lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson would be stepping into the Octagon in the co-main event of UFC 209 on March 4th to compete for the interim UFC lightweight championship. The fight had been in the works for quite some time after UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor revealed following his UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez that he would be taking some time off from fighting due to the upcoming birth of his firstborn child. While both Nurmagomedov and Ferguson appeared to be on-board for an interim lightweight title scrap, Ferguson then backtracked, demanding that the UFC give him the same money Nurmagomedov would be getting.
