Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor had their first war of words face-to-face when they went on their four city world tour press conference last week. There were some highlights and some low points on the tour but overall, fans got what they were looking for as two of the biggest stars from boxing and mixed martial arts promoted their mega-money fight set to take place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The mega-money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is set to take place on August 26 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. With two of the biggest stars from the world of boxing and mixed martial arts ready to clash in the boxing ring, many are expecting McGregor to be the much heavier man come fight night. With a slight height and reach advantage, many may think “The Notorious” will put back on quite a few pounds after cutting to make the 154-pound weight limit. However, McGregor’s nutritionist George Lockhart revealed that isn’t the plan for this fight taking place in the boxing ring.

On August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will battle the undefeated Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match. For all the Irishman’s talent as a mixed martial artist, he is not believed to have much of a chance in this bout, given the gulf of boxing experience between himself and Mayweather. Yet according to Mike Winkeljohn, who serves as the striking coach at Jackson’s MMA, arguably the best camp in MMA, McGregor has a chance.

To promote this fight, the two stars recently engaged in a four-city press tour, stopping in LA, Toronto, Brooklyn and London. As expected, this tour generated hundreds of headlines. Unfortunately, not all of them were positive, as Mayweather dropped a homophobic slur in London, and McGregor caught flack for comments that seemed to have a racist undertone.

Prices range from a limited amount of $500 seats up to $10,000 seats, according to what Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe stated during the world tour last week.

We have not seen current #1 UFC ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov compete since November of last year where he defeated Michael Johnson by submission in the third round. “The Eagle” was scheduled to fight #2 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson in a UFC interim lightweight title fight at UFC 209 in March. However, Nurmagomdeov suffered weight management medical issues hours before the UFC 209 weigh-ins and was taken to a hospital and the interim title fight was canceled. Since the mishap, Khabib has stated that he has been recovering from his medical issues suffered in March and was aiming to fight Ferguson first and then Conor McGregor in the Winter. McGregor has stated that a fight with Nurmagomedov in his home country of Russia is something that has his interest after his mega money fight with Floyd Mayweather in August.

On August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will compete in his first-ever professional boxing match. Despite his complete lack of experience in pro boxing, this fight will not see him battle some journeyman in a community center basement. Instead, he’ll battle undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a fight that is widely considered the biggest of all time. Considering the scale of the test in front of him, you might expect McGregor to put his MMA training completely on hold to focus exclusively on boxing. Apparently, however, this has not been the case.

The four-day, four-city press tour for Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s August 26 mega fight was a doozy. It created all of the hilarious, intense, and memorable moments we hoped for. Unfortunately, it also created a few less savoury moments, as some of McGregor’s comments were deemed racist, and Mayweather uttered a homophobic slur. According to McGregor’s father, Tony McGregor, however, any opinions that the Irish mixed martial artist is racist are inaccurate. The elder McGregor defended his son on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

As it turns out, a key facet of these preparations will indeed be former two-weight world champion and current boxing analyst Paulie Malignaggi. Malignaggi detailed his role in McGregor’s camp on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. Apparently, he’ll serve as more of a sparring partner and less of a coach.

Whether you thought it was exciting, or a little over the top, you can’t deny that Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s four-city press tour, which stopped in LA, Toronto, Brooklyn and London, was big. The tour drew out upward of 50,000 fans and generated countless headlines. The tour was also very exclusive. Tickets were expensive, and they weren’t easy to get even if you could afford them. Media credentials were also pretty difficult to acquire. Backstage access, finally, was as locked down as Area 51. The inner workings of these tour stops were only accessible to members of the two fighters’ teams, the promoters, and the crew.
