Conor McGregor takes shot at “quivering coward” Khabib Nurmagomedov — and his father

You knew it was coming. With UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and former champion Conor McGregor officially booked for a blockbuster grudge match in the main event of UFC 229 on October 6, it was only a matter of time before the trash talk started.

Today, Conor McGregor took one of the first shots in what’s sure to be an ongoing verbal battle. He did so on Instagram, where he targeted both Khabib Nurmagomedov and his father Abdulmanap.

“[Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov] I can see you,” he said in his post, which included a screen shot from his infamous rampage in Brooklyn. “Cowering behind fake respect. Just like your middle child. A quivering coward.”

At this stage, it’s hard to say what prompted Conor McGregor’s attack on the elder Nurmagomedov. Whatever the case, the Nurmagomedovs are sure to reply posthaste.

Khabib Nurmagomedov last fought in April, when he defeated last minute replacement opponent Al Iaquinta to capture the vacant UFC lightweight title, which was simultaneously stripped from Conor McGregor for inactivity. With this title win, Nurmagomedov improved to an insane 26-0 overall — easily one of the most impressive records in MMA.

McGregor, meanwhile, has not competed in mixed martial arts since November of 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the UFC lightweight belt. Given that he still held the UFC featherweight title at the time, this made him the first fighter in UFC history to hold titles in two divisions concurrently. Since this last MMA fight, of course, McGregor did compete in a headline-dominating boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr., which he lost by 10th-round TKO. The Irish superstar 21-3 in MMA
