The latest Conor McGregor buzz surrounds a possible boxing match with legendary pugilist Manny Pacquiao.

Pacquiao himself is responsible for these swirling rumors, having recently divulged that his team had begun preliminary negotiations with the McGregor side.

Though this fight is far from official, most oddsmakers have already pegged Conor McGregor as a sizeable underdog against Pacquiao. In the opinion of former UFC heavyweight and current combat sports personality Brendan Schaub, those oddsmakers are bang on.

Schaub shared his breakdown of a possible McGregor vs. Pacquiao boxing match in a recent chat with TMZ.

“Even for a guy like me, who was on the Conor vs. [Floyd] Mayweather train – I was the face of MMA with Showtime – this would be tough for me to sell,” Schaub said. “This would be a tough fight for me to sell.”

“I think it’s a tougher fight for Conor [than Mayweather]. Pacquiao’s more of a pressure fighter, bigger puncher. Floyd Mayweather was the perfect matchup where we could sell that super fight. This would be tough to sell [as competitive]. It’s gonna sell well [on] pay-per-view, maybe…”

“No, not in boxing,” Schaub concluded when asked point-blank if McGregor could defeat Pacquiao. “MMA, it wouldn’t last 30 seconds [for Pacquiao]. Boxing, no.”

At the end of the day, Schaub isn’t even sure we’ll see Conor McGregor fight again. That said, he can’t fault him for targeting big paydays in the boxing world.

“As Dana White said, when you have $100 million in the bank, it’s hard to wake up and get punched in the face. I wouldn’t. Khabib, Ton Ferguson, that’s what’s left for [McGregor]. It’s slim pickings. If I was him, I’d be doing exactly this. I’d be fighting Manny Pacquiao, collect another $100 million check, and ride off into the sunset.”
