On this day in 2015, Garbrandt entered the Octagon for the first time and faced Marcus Brimage at UFC 182. “No Love” put on a memorable performance in his debut, putting away Brimage in the third round by TKO.

To close out 2016, undefeated Team Alpha Male prospect Cody Garbrandt put on the performance of a lifetime as he not only defeated former bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz, but picked ‘The Dominator’ apart over the course of five rounds, even rocking Cruz several times throughout the fight. Leading up to the fight, Garbrandt stated several times that he would be happy to give Cruz a rematch when he emerged from UFC 207 victorious. In addition however, leading up to UFC 207, Garbrandt and former teammate TJ Dillashaw exchanged barbs. With both men emerging from their respective UFC 207 fights victorious, many believe the stage had been set for a fight between the two former teammates.

With title fights in two divisions, and appearances from a handful of ranked fighters, UFC 207 was a big card for the official UFC rankings. Now that the card is in the rear view mirror, the promotion has updated its rankings, and there has been significant movement in several divisions. Perhaps the most notable change is Cody Garbrandt’s entrance onto the pound-for-pound list, which followed his bantamweight title winning defeat of pound-for-pound stalwart Dominick Cruz. He now holds the number-five spot on the list, while Cruz dropped five spots to number eight. Unsurprisingly, Garbrandt also usurped the top spot in the bantamweight division’s rankings.

The elusive style of now former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was figured out by Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 on Friday. Garbrandt was able to get the better of the exchanges over the five-round championship fight and became the undisputed champion of the men’s 135-pound division with a unanimous decision win.

Last Friday, in the co-main event of UFC 207, Cody Garbrandt put forth a masterful performance, swiping the bantamweight title from the waist of Dominick Cruz with a clear-cut unanimous decision win. With this win, logic would suggest that Garbrandt will now set his sights on top contender TJ Dillashaw, or even on a rematch with Cruz. Apparently, however, the new champ has his sites set on “money fight” with reigning featherweight king Jose Aldo. Garbrandt made this admission on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

Last Friday, in the co-main event of UFC 207, undefeated 25-year-old Cody Garbrandt delivered a shocking upset, capturing a unanimous decision over Dominick Cruz to win the UFC bantamweight crown. As the new champion, Garbrandt must now set his sights on the many dangerous contenders in the bantamweight division – none of whom are more deserving of the next shot than his former training partner TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw, who lost the belt to Cruz in January, has since rebounded with dominant wins over two top-flight foes. The first of these wins saw him take out a former foil in Raphael Assuncao in July. The second occurred just moments before Garbrandt’s defeat of Cruz, when he scored a unanimous decision win over the absurdly powerful John Lineker.

In the moments after this win, the new champ sat down for a post-fight press conference with the media. According to Garbrandt, the most surprising thing about the fight was that Cruz wasn’t nearly as fast or elusive as he expected him to be.

Thursday morning during the UFC 207 early weigh-ins, UFC bantamweight title challenger Cody Garbrandt, and UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens, who is a teammate of Garbrandt’s opponent Dominick Cruz, were involved in a bit of an altercation backstage. While there has been no video of the altercation, footage of security guards quickly darting backstage to handle the situation while UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes hit the scales, quickly surfaced.

Garbrandt of course was in attendance hitting the scales for his UFC 207 co-main event scrap with bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. While Stephens is not fighting at the event, he is one of Cruz’ teammates.
