UFC champ Carlos Ulberg mistaken for ‘one of the fans’ at WrestleMania

Carlos Ulberg is the new UFC light heavyweight champion, but he is not a household name yet. UFC fans learned that the hard way during night two of WrestleMania, when commentators completely failed to clock the champ when he appeared on screen.
Ulberg won the vacant light heavyweight belt at UFC 327 earlier this month, when he survived a disastrous leg injury to knock out Jiri Prochazka in round one. Having recently undergone surgery to repair his injury, he will not be fighting anytime soon. However, he is clearly making the most of his new championship status, as he was front and centre for Sunday’s Roman Reigns vs. CM Punk showdown.
During the match, Punk left the ring, and stole a traditional ula fala from around Ulberg’s neck. Commentators then announced that the item had been taken from “one of the fans” — rather than a UFC champion.

“That’s an ula fala, of course, that one of the fans was wearing,” the commentator said.
Of course, it probably would have helped if Ulberg was wearing his UFC belt. The problem is, he apparently lost it at his UFC 327 afterparty, and the promotion has evidently not replaced it for him.
Prior to beating Prochazka to win the title, Ulberg defeated the likes of Dominick Reyes, Jan Blachowicz and Volkan Oezdemir to set up his title shot.
Hopefully, he heals up soon, and can take on one of the multiple deserving contenders in his division.
