Pros react after Brian Ortega submits Yair Rodriguez at UFC Mexico City
Tonight’s UFC Mexico City event was co-headlined by a featherweight rematch between Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega.
Rodriguez (19-5 MMA) had entered the bout looking to rebound, this after suffering a TKO loss to Alex Volkanovski in his most previous effort in July of last year. Prior to that setback, ‘El Pantera’ was coming off back-to-back stoppage wins over Josh Emmett and Brian Ortega respectively.
Meanwhile, Brian Ortega (16-3 MMA) was returning to the Octagon for the first time in 19 months this evening in Mexico City. ‘T-City’ entered the bout looking to snap a two-fight losing skid, his most previous being a TKO loss to Yair Rodirguez.
Tonight’s UFC Mexico City co-main event resulted in a third-round submission victory for Ortega. After a tough opening round, which included getting dropped by a punch, ‘T-City’ was able to turn the tide in round two thanks to his forward pressure and grappling. Then, in round three, Ortega was able to get the fight to the floor early and promptly locked up a fight-ending arm triangle choke.
