UFC Mexico City Results: Brian Ortega stops Yair Rodriguez (Video)

We have you covered for all of tonight’s UFC Mexico City results, including the co-main event rematch between Yair Rodriguez and Brian Ortega.

Rodriguez (19-4 MMA) will enter the bout looking to rebound, this after suffering a TKO loss to Alex Volkanovski in July of last year. Prior to that setback, ‘El Pantera’ was coming off back-to-back stoppage wins over Josh Emmett and Brian Ortega respectively.

Meanwhile, Brian Ortega (15-3 MMA) will be returning to the Octagon for the first time in 19 months this evening in Mexico City. ‘T-City’ enters the bout looking to snap a two-fight losing skid, his most recent being a TKO loss to Yair Rodirguez.

Round one of the UFC Mexico City co-main event begins and Yair Rodriguez lands a jab as Brian Ortega attempts to close the distance. Both men land good shots in the pocket. ‘El Pantera’ with a nice body kick. Ortega leaps in with a combination. Rodriquez lands a big left and ‘T-City’ goes down. Yair jumps on him with punches, but Ortega gets back up to his feet. It appears Ortega’s nose is broken. Yair continues to land big shots from range. He goes to the body with some heavy kicks. Brian Ortega replies with a hard body kick of his own. Rodriguez drops Ortega with a low kick. He jumps on ‘T-City’ and begins to unload some good ground and pound. Ortega looks for a triangle choke but can’t secure it. He looks to lock up a leg and is able to transition to the back of Rodriguez. We are now back on the feet and Brian has Yair’s back. He drags the former interim champion down to the ground. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Brian Ortega comes out pumping his jab. Yair Rodriguez with a big body kick. ‘T-City’ is applying a lot of pressure early here in the second frame. He lands a decent right hand over the top. He looks for a takedown but can’t get it. Yair locks up a guillotine choke and drops to the floor. Ortega appears to be ok and is looking to get his head free. ‘T-City’ escapes the hold and is now in top position and landing some ground and pound.  Yair Rodriguez with some good shots from off of his back. Ortega looks to posture up and land an elbow but misses. He looks to pass to side control, but Rodriguez does a good job of defending. A good elbow from Ortega has opened up a cut on the face of Rodriguez. Good left hands from ‘T-City’ to close out the round.

Round three of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Brian Ortega comes forward and quickly forces the clinch. He scores a takedown and immediately moves for an arm triangle submission. He locks it up and this one is all over! WOW!
