UFC Mexico City Results: Brandon Royval defeats Brandon Moreno (Highlights)

We have you covered for all of tonight’s UFC Mexico City results, including the main event rematch between Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval.

Moreno (21-7-2 MMA) will be competing for the first time since losing the promotion’s flyweight title to Alexandre Pantoja this past July at UFC 290. Prior to that setback, ‘The Assassin Baby’ was coming off back-to-back TKO victories over Kai Kara-France and Deiveson Figueiredo.

Meanwhile, Brandon Royval (15-7 MMA) will also enter tonight’s headliner with hopes of returning to the win column. ‘Raw Dawg’ most recently competed at December’s UFC 296 event, where he fell short in his quest to dethrone reigning flyweight kingpin Alexandre Pantoja. Prior to that setback, Royval was on a three-fight winning streak, which included stoppage wins over Matt Schnell and Matheus Nicolau.

Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval previously collided at UFC 255 in November of 2020, with the Mexican emerging victorious by way of first-round TKO.

Round one of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Brandon Royval looks to close the distance as Brandon Moreno circles along the fence. ‘Raw Dawg’ with a low kick. He follows that up with a nice body kick. Not much offense from the former champion early on. Royval with a kick. Moreno looks to counter with a right hand, but it falls short. A nice left hook finds a home for Moreno. Royval continues to be the aggressor early. He lands a decent right hand and then a follow up jab. Moreno counters with a low kick. Royval with a body kick but eats a hard 1-2 from the former champ. Brandon Moreno with a good left hook and then a body kick. Brandon Royval continues to pressure and lands a right. The fighters clinch and Moreno lands a knee. The flyweights separate and Royval connects with a jab. He follows that up with a good body kick. Moreno with a left over the top. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Bradon Royval comes forward quickly with a low kick. He lands another that lands flush. Moreno with a big counter right hand. ‘Raw Dawg’ looks to close the distance but eats a big counter left. The former champion appears to have found his range here in the second frame. Royval with a low kick. Brandon Moreno with a good right hand over the top. He attempts another but it falls short. Royval with a good knee up the middle. He swings and misses with a low kick. ‘The Assassin Baby’ lands a big 1-2. Royval appears to be ok but that was a big shot. A nice jab from ‘Raw Dawg’. He follows that up with a knee up the middle. Moreno dives on a takedown and gets it. Royval looks to secure a triangle choke, but Moreno avoids. Back on the feet following a failed omaplata attempt. The horn sounds to end the second frame.

Round three of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Brandon Royval once again comes forward instantly with some low kicks. Brandon Moreno responds with one of his own. ‘The Assassin Baby’ goes upstairs with a high kick which partially connects. Royval replies with another good low kick. He doubles up on his jab. Moreno shoots in and scores a takedown. ‘Raw Dawg’ scrambles back up to his feet and is able to break free from the clinch. Brandon Royval with a kick that accidentally hits the groin of the former champ. We break so that Moreno can recover. Upon restart Royval lands a 1-2. Moreno counters with a left hook. A good body kick and then a right hand from Brandon Royval. He is finding some success here in round three. Brandon Moreno goes to the body with a right hand. The former champ shoots for a takedown. He gets it for a second, but Royval quickly scrambles back up to his feet. ‘Raw Dawg’ with some good jabs now. He throws a kick, but Moreno catches it. More jabs from Royval. Moreno answers with a right hand and then a low kick. Royval with an uppercut and then a right hook to end the round.

He looks for a takedown, but Royval stuffs it with ease. ‘Raw Dawg’ with a nice 1-2. ‘The Assassin Baby’ replies with a heavy low kick. He lands another. The former champ with a big right hand. Brandon Royval comes back with a three-punch combination and then shoots in and scores a takedown. Moreno scrambles back to his feet, but Royval has him pressed against the cage and lands some good uppercuts. Brandon Moreno breaks free from the clinch and lands a low kick. Royval has the better output, but Moreno is landing with a much higher percentage. Good shots from both men in the pocket. Royval with a jab. The fifth and final round of the UFC Mexico City main event begins and Brandon Royval quickly gets back to work with his jab. Brandon Moreno looks to counter with a right but misses. The former champ forces the clinch and looks for a trip takedown. Royval keeps the fight standing and the flyweights begin to battle in the clinch. Referee Herb Dean calls for action and then steps in and separates the fighters. Royval with a nice combination. He just misses with a knee up the middle. Brandon Moreno with a counter right that partially connects. Royval answers with a nice low kick. He continues to stay busy with combinations. Moreno answers with a pair of good right hands. He shoots in and takes the back of Royval. The referee quickly calls for action. Herb Dean once again forces the fighters to break. Brandon Moreno with a good combination.
