Moreno (21-8-2 MMA) was competing for the first time since losing the promotion’s flyweight world title to Alexandre Pantoja this past July at UFC 290. Prior to that setback, ‘The Assassin Baby’ had scoreed back-to-back TKO victories over Kai Kara-France and Deiveson Figueiredo.

Meanwhile, Brandon Royval (16-7 MMA) had also entered tonight’s headliner with hopes of returning to the win column. ‘Raw Dawg’ had most previously competed at December’s UFC 296 event, where he fell short in his quest to dethrone reigning flyweight kingpin Alexandre Pantoja. Prior to that setback, Royval was on a three-fight winning streak, which included stoppage wins over Matt Schnell and Matheus Nicolau.

Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval had originally collided at UFC 255 in November of 2020, with the Mexican emerging victorious by way of first-round TKO.

Tonight’s UFC Mexico City main event rematch proved to be a thrilling twenty-five-minute affair. Brandon Moreno got off to a strong start in the opening two rounds, but Brandon Royval stormed back in the final fifteen minutes of the fight. ‘Raw Dawg’ utilized forward pressure and a plethora of strikes to ultimately get the better of ‘The Assassin Baby’, earning a well deserved split decision victory.
