When the first UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver left the organization, the UFC put on a lightweight tournament to crown a new king of the world at 155-pounds. But after BJ Penn and Caol Uno fought to a draw in the finals, the UFC dissolved the entire division. This is what prompted Penn to search out new challenges, resulting in fighting future PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi in K-1 back in 2003. Oct10.2003

While Penn chose not to engage Lentz on this one, his good friend Joe Lauzon couldn’t let Lentz’s comments slide. Replying to Lentz on Reddit over the weekend, Lauzon absolutely brutalized Lentz with a fiery comment that challenged the lightweight’s legacy, and reminded him that Penn whooped him during their brief stint training together.
BJ Penn: If you’re the GOAT because you walked away at the right time, then go f*ck yourself
Tom Taylor - June 25, 2017
In advance of his January comeback fight with Yair Rodriguez, many fight fans suggested BJ Penn would have been wiser to just call it a career. When he lost to Rodriguez, these cries for his retirment grew even louder, and they’ve continued to this day, when he’s just hours away another fight with Dennis Siver. According to Penn, however, true greats don’t just quit when the going gets tough. The real legends of MMA – like Anderson Silva – fight as long as they want to, and retire on their own terms.

Tom Taylor - May 2, 2017
Cris “Cyborg” Justino is widely considered the best female featherweight on earth. Yet she is not the UFC women’s featherweight champion. That honor belongs instead to Germaine de Randamie, who won the belt with a hard-fought January defeat of Holly Holm. Given Cyborg’s status as the consensus best fighter in the division, she and her fans have long suggested she deserves a crack at De Randamie, and the UFC women’s featherweight belt. Unfortunately, De Randamie has been something of a ghost of late, giving little in the way of information as to when or against whom she might next defend her title.
