Amanda Nunes trains with Kayla Harrison’s top rival in first message since UFC 324 cancellation

Former UFC two-division champion Amanda Nunes shared her first message since Kayla Harrison’s shocking withdrawal from UFC 324.

UFC 324 took a big hit as UFC women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison was forced to withdraw from her scheduled fight with the returning Amanda Nunes due to an injury. Harrison, who won the UFC women’s bantamweight championship at UFC 316 last year, suffered a neck injury that will have her sidelined for at least six months.

As of this writing, it’s uncertain if Nunes, who was scheduled for her first fight since UFC 289, will remain on the UFC 324 card in an interim title fight. UFC matchmakers promoted Sean O’Malley vs. Song Yadong to the co-main event slot.

Nunes and Harrison are former American Top Team teammates who were on a collision course following UFC 316. Harrison recently broke her social media silence since her stunning withdrawal from UFC 324, and now Nunes has followed suit.

In a recent Instagram post, Nunes broke her social media silence for the first time since Harrison’s withdrawal.

“The flame continues to live,” Nunes posted with footage of training with Harrison’s former PFL foe Larissa Pacheco.

Nunes retired following a successful bantamweight title defense against Irene Aldana at UFC 289 in Vancouver. She was supposed to fight Julianna Pena in a trilogy at UFC 289 before Pena withdrew due to injury.

The 37-year-old Nunes is regarded by many as one of the greatest fighters of all time, regardless of gender. She defeated the likes of Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Cris Cyborg earlier in her UFC tenure.

As of this writing, it looks like the UFC’s current plans are to postpone Harrison vs. Nunes for a later date. In the meantime, Nunes is hard at work in the gym with the lone woman to defeat Harrison in her professional MMA career.
