UFC heavyweight contender Josh Hokit wants the promotion to cut ties with Tom Aspinall amidst the undisputed champion’s ongoing absence.

After Ciryl Gane reclaimed the interim UFC heavyweight title at the White House earlier this month, he’s likely set for a rematch against undisputed champion Tom Aspinall. Aspinall is in ongoing negotiations with the UFC, which could hit a speed bump amidst his advisor, Eddie Hearn’s ongoing feud with UFC CEO Dana White.

When asked about Aspinall’s status at a recent press conference, White didn’t seem thrilled about the current UFC undisputed heavyweight champion returning to the Octagon. If things turn chaotic between Aspinall and the UFC brass, heavyweight contender Josh Hokit made an intriguing case for a title shot after recently knocking out Derrick Lewis.

Amidst uncertainty regarding Aspinall’s targeted return, Hokit believes White and the UFC need to cut ties with the undisputed champion to keep the division moving.

Josh Hokit calls for Tom Aspinall’s release as Eddie Hearn ‘plays games’

In a recent tweet, Hokit may have sparked a new feud with the undisputed heavyweight champion.

“Here’s an idea, UFC. Cut Tom. Ciryl is the undisputed champ anyways in my opinion. He made Tom quit,” Hokit said of Aspinall.

“Tom’s manager is trying to play games. Give me Ciryl in September, and when I win, I will give Alex Pereira a chance to get his self-esteem back in Nov/Dec. At least then we will have a champ that is down to fight all of the time.”

As of this writing, neither Aspinall nor Hearn has responded to Hokit’s tweet.

Hokit is in hot water with the UFC after claiming that former first lady Michelle Obama is a biological man during his post-fight interview at UFC Freedom 250. White recently condemned Hokit, but assured that the polarizing heavyweight won’t face a formal punishment for his comments.
