Bruce Buffer details updated timeframe for retirement as UFC’s Octagon announcer

Bruce Buffer still isn’t thinking about retirement anytime soon.

Buffer had said to BJPENN.com two years ago that he had likely 10 years left, or around UFC 400, when he would step away from the sport. However, the Octagon announcer has walked back on those plans, as he believes he can go past that, and can continue to do his job into his 80’s.

“I know I said to you it was UFC 400. Obviously, I would like to go to UFC 400; I would like to go beyond,” Buffer said on Just Scrap Radio on BJPENN.com. “For me, as long as I can do what I do with the mental and physical passion that I do it, I will keep doing it. If I’m 80, I will keep doing it. But, once I lose my passion to do it, or the ability to do it the way I want to do it, as I’m not going to stand still.

“I’ve got to do it my way, I have to be able to move, and have the want to go on the road and do the shows in Baku and here and there. There might be a time when I may not do as many shows as I do, I don’t know. My passion is higher than it has ever been. I have no thoughts about stopping.”

As Buffer said, health and the desire to do it will be the driving reasons for when he decides to step away from the UFC. Yet, that isn’t going away anytime soon, as Buffer expects to remain doing the job for years to come.

Bruce Buffer details how he makes his UFC schedule

Although Buffer is 69-years-old, he still remains on the road quite often for UFC events.

Just last weekend, he was in Baku, Azerbaijan, and Buffer said he likes continuing to go on the road to different countries, and not just doing the big numbered events.

“The UFC has so many different dates, it’s like 40+ shows a year. I’ve done as many as 39, which is a lot. I do many appearances for sports, entertainment, and corporate events, but the UFC is my main priority. I get a list of shows requested, obviously, all the numbered events. Then, based on location, I try to do as many different Fight Night events as I can.”

Buffer will be back in the Octagon on July 11 for UC 329, which sees Conor McGregor take on Max Holloway.
