Heavyweight veteran Mark Hunt has been one of the most vocal advocates for a cleaner sport. Following Hunt’s UFC 200 loss to Brock Lesnar, which was overturned to a no contest after Lesnar failed a pair of drug tests, Hunt went on to call for the UFC to put a provision in contracts protecting fighters from opponents who use PEDs. The UFC was unwilling to put the provisions into contracts, and Hunt ultimately took the promotion to court. While he has maintained that the only reason he accepted a UFC 209 fight with Alistair Overeem was because the promotion forced him to, Hunt believes Overeem is a cheater as well, likely due to his 2012 failed drug test.

Fan favorite UFC heavyweight Mark Hunt’s recent spat with the UFC brass over the past 6 months has certainly been a public one. After Hunt’s UFC 200 scrap with Brock Lesnar, Hunt was extremely critical of the promotion for allowing Lesnar to fight despite being granted an exemption from the first several months of random drug testing leading up to their scrap. Hunt put the UFC and Lesnar on blast on numerous occasions over the situation, and even turned down two fights following UFC 200 after he and the UFC were unable to reach an agreement on putting a provision in all future contracts that protected both Hunt and his opponent in the event that one man tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.

It looks like Alistair Overeem vs. Mark Hunt is a done deal as the UFC has announced the bout on their UFC 209 website. The heavyweight bout is the first fight to be announced by the promotion for the UFC 209 event taking place on March 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Yesterday afternoon, reports of a thrilling UFC 209 heavyweight rematch between recent title challenger Alistair Overeem and fan favorite knockout artist Mark Hunt began to swirl. The bout seemed to mark the end of Hunt’s long, anti-UFC tirade, which stemmed from the PED bust of his UFC 200 opponent Brock Lesnar, and the UFC’s apparent lack of concern about this bust. This matchup was announced by the UFC, and reported by many major MMA news outlets, including Hunt’s own website, where quotes from Hunt about the rematch were featured. Apparently, however, this fight is not a done deal just yet.

Yet when Overeem was booked to fight Andrei Arlovski, a long time staple of Jackson’s camp, things got a little awkward. Jackson and co. opted to corner Arlovski for the fight, while Overeem reduced his time at the Albuquerque gym and did most of his training elsewhere. Now that the fight has come and gone, however, Overeem is back at Jackson’s, training under the same room as his recent foe as he prepares for his upcoming title fight with Stipe Miocic.

This past weekend in Curitiba, Brazil, Stipe Miocic shocked the world as he picked up an incredible one-punch knockout win over UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum. Miocic landed a right hook as Werdum rushed forward, and put the heavyweight champ to sleep in the very first round to claim the UFC heavyweight championship.
