Joe Duffy confident Conor McGregor will lose to Floyd Mayweather

‘Irish’ Joe Duffy was at one time one of the most watched prospects in the UFC. Prior to McGregor’s UFC 196 loss to Nate Diaz, Duffy was the last man to defeat McGregor, submitting the Irish superstar in the 1st round of their Cage Warriors 39 scrap in 2010. While Duffy is currently on a 2-fight win streak in the UFC, he is planning to test the free agency now that his UFC contract is up. Duffy explained during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour that McGregor simply has a punchers chance, but not much more:

UFC lightweight champion and former UFC featherweight champion, Conor McGregor may possess some of the best knockout power in the UFC’s 145 or 155 pound divisions. That has lead many to believe that McGregor stood a chance against undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather. On the other hand of course, Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest boxers of all time, and while the champion has struggled with southpaw opponents in the past, he is by far the most technical opponent McGregor has ever faced.

Throughout the course of 2017, undefeated boxing icon Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor have continued to be linked to a boxing superfight. The year started with Mayweather offering McGregor $15 million for a boxing superfight, with UFC President Dana White then countering Mayweather’s offer with one of his own. Mayweather of course laughed off the offer, reiterating that he wouldn’t fight for less than $100 million.

Throughout the course of 2017, conflicting reports have continued to emerge regarding the status of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing superfight. While offers have been made on both sides, neither party has been able to reach an agreement. With that being said, the NSAC revealed recently that they were aware of ongoing negotiations between the two parties. This was followed up by a statement from UFC President Dana White this week, in which he stated that he was confident a fight between McGregor and Mayweather would be official, saying:

Conflicting reports have continued to emerge regarding the status of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight, with UFC President Dana White, and undefeated prizefighter Floyd Mayweather denying reports of a nearly being finalized. Given this, fight fans have been left to wonder if a fight between McGregor & Mayweather will ever materialize. This week, Dana White stated in an interview that he now believed a fight between Mayweather and McGregor would happen, however according to Fox Sports’ Skip Bayless, White was merely calling Mayweather’s bluff.

Shortly after however, the NSAC confirmed that while a fight was still far off from being finalized, negotiations between the two parties were ongoing. This has then been followed up by several conflicting reports of whether or not a fight was close, with both Mayweather and White saying that a fight was far from official.

With news surfacing earlier this year from the NSAC that both parties have been making progress in negotiations, many believed a fight was all, but official. Mayweather and UFC President Dana White both then revealed that the fight was not close to being finalized. Mayweather released a statement in which he stated that he was truly retired and would keep fans updated if the status of his retirement changed.
