The highly anticipated boxing rematch between legends Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao has been canceled.

Manny Pacquiao’s team recently confirmed to The Ring that the upcoming rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been scratched as Mayweather faces lawsuits and potential criminal charges.

Mayweather and Pacquiao competed in the most lucrative boxing match in the sport’s history in 2015, with Mayweather earning the nod on the judges’ scorecards. They were scheduled to run it back on September 19th on Netflix before a slew of recent issues hit Mayweather and his camp.

According to Pacquiao’s camp, Mayweather is to blame for the cancellation. Jas Mathur, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, confirmed to The Ring that ‘a volatile mix of federal lawsuits, scheduling overbooks, and financial gridlock’ in Mayweather’s camp were catalysts of the indefinite postponement.

Mayweather was supposed to compete in an exhibition against Mike Zambidis, a Greek kickboxer, this weekend before CSI Sports Events filed an injunction. The Boxing Hall of Famer also faces two felony charges stemming from allegedly passing a bad check to buy a lucrative watch in Las Vegas.

As of this writing, neither Mayweather nor his representatives has commented on the Pacquiao rematch. Pacquiao’s camp, however, remains confident that they’ll rebook the rematch for a future date.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing after a stoppage win over UFC superstar Conor McGregor in 2017. He’s fought in multiple exhibition bouts in recent years, including against social media influencer Logan Paul.

Pacquiao returned to boxing at age 46 last summer, fighting to a majority draw against Mario Barrios. It was his first professional fight in four years following a unanimous decision loss in August 2021 to Yordenis Ugas.
