Dana White mulls over assisting Floyd Mayweather amid troubling financial situation: “I don’t know enough about it”

Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is seemingly in financial turmoil, and Dana White is considering lending a hand.

Mayweather was expected to be back in the ring this past Saturday for an exhibition showdown against Mike Zambidis in Greece. That plan blew up when CSI Sports filed an injunction to prevent the fight from happening. The company already had agreements in place for Mayweather to fight fellow boxing icon Mike Tyson, and even gave “Money” millions in advances.

CSI Sports also wasn’t thrilled about Mayweather accepting an offer to fight Manny Pacquiao on Netflix. That bout was supposed to take place in September but has been postponed. Mayweather had accepted these fights amid a $175 million lawsuit against his former associate Jona Rechnitz. Mayweather alleges that Rechnitz defrauded him.

White was asked about Mayweather’s situation during the Zuffa Boxing 08 post-fight press conference this past Sunday. The UFC CEO revealed he had a brief discussion with the International Boxing Hall of Famer (via MMAMania).

“I’ve talked to [Mayweather] about it but I don’t know enough about it,” White said. “You hear all these different stories, and I think you have to wait to see how this thing is going to play out in court for him. But when somebody works as hard as he did and amasses the type of wealth that he had and then they lose it, or it gets stolen or whatever the deal is, it’s horrible and it happens a lot in professional sports.

“So who knows? Anything is possible and maybe we could do something to figure it out for him.”

Whether or not Mayweather can smooth things over with CSI Sports remains to be seen, but the trouble doesn’t end there. “Money” has also been hit with a $7.3 million tax lien from the IRS. As Mayweather’s debt continues to pile up, many are left to wonder what went wrong for the man who used being rich as his marketing tool throughout his career.
