Jaron “Boots” Ennis was quick to hurl a jab right back at Vergil Ortiz after a stellar performance against Xander Zayas.

“Boots” entered the Barclays Center this past Saturday with a slew of confidence, and for good reason. Ennis quickly flashed his speed and scored a first-round knockdown on Zayas in their 154-pound title fight. While the Puerto Rican star showed heart from that point on, Ennis was simply too much for the 23-year-old to handle.

Ennis stopped Zayas in the seventh round after dropping him again to become the WBA and WBO junior middleweight champion. During his post-fight interview with DAZN color commentator Chris Mannix, “Boots” called for a showdown with Ortiz.

It didn’t take long for “The Texas Machine” to hop on X where he delivered quite the prediction for a potential showdown with Ennis.

“Yea I’m sleeping Jaron,” Ortiz wrote.

Ortiz followed up with another post doubling down on his vision for a bout with “Boots.”

“If I get him like that I promise you I get him out of there,” Ortiz wote.

Ennis was asked about Ortiz’s posts during the post-fight press conference, and he explained why his potential opponent’s theory just doesn’t add up in his eyes.

“Why he ain’t take the fight in the beginning? Bro, he be talking, I ain’t gonna lie,” Ennis said. “I’m trying to tell you I’m really different. He’s gonna see firsthand because he gets hurt a lot. He’s flatfooted and he’s been dropped multiple times. If he gets hit by me it’s gonna be different. I keep trying to tell y’all.”

Both “Boots” and Ortiz have undefeated pro boxing records. Ortiz currently holds the interim WBC junior middleweight title. Sebastian Fundora holds the main gold, and many believe he’d also be an intriguing option for Ennis to face next.
