Palhares suspended 2 years for unsportsmanlike conduct
Rousimar Palhares has received quite a bit of criticism for holding submissions late and injuring his opponents.
The most recent instance came at WSOF 22 when Palhares held a kimura lock after his opponent Jake Shields had tapped.
Referee Steve Mazzagatti intervened and Palhares eventually let the submission go. After the fight Palhares was stripped of the WSOF welterweight championship and it was revealed that he would have to appear before the NSAC.
During his NAC hearing today Palhares maintained his innocence, despite WSOF President Ray Sefo and referee Steve Mazzagatti testifying that Palhares’ actions were in fact unsportsmanlike conduct.
As a result, Palhares has been suspended for 2 years and fined $40,000 of the purse he made in the fight.
