Imortal FC 9, a fight card that went down in Maranhao, Brazil over the weekend, delivered a serious dose of chaos, as two flyweights chose to keep on sluggin’ after the referee had attempted to stop the action.
This bizarre scene occurred in a bout between Joao Elias and Walter Martins. According to a report from MMA Fighting, the referee had stopped the fight with the intention of having a cage-side doctor check out a cut on Elias’s face. Unfortunately for the referee, the fighters weren’t willing to stop. As he began to walk away, the two flyweights began furiously pummelling one another, and continued to do so even when the referee frantically attempted to intervene.
In the end, this chaotic scene resulted in the bout being ruled a no contest. See this strange incident in the video at the top of this post.
Interestingly, this Imortal FC 9 card also featured the return of long-absent PRIDE fighter Zuluzinho. Unfortunately, the hulking fighter’s comeback did not go as planned, as he could no return for a second round.
