Last night, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 214, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former champion Jon Jones finally stepped into the cage for their long-awaited rematch. Though Cormier started strong – arguably winning the early portions of the fight – he was cracked in the third by a monstrous Jones head-kick. A few followup ground strikes later and the deed was done. Daniel Cormier had lost by third-round knockout, and the light heavyweight title was once again around Jon Jones’ waist. In the moments after this emphatic stoppage, Jones celebrated with his team and family, while an emotional Cormier struggled to keep his footing, stumbling around the Octagon and shining a spotlight on the ugly, brain-rattling undertone of the sport we all love so much. Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, this after scoring a third-round TKO victory over Daniel Cormier in the evenings main event. After two closely contested rounds, “Bones” was able to find a home for a crushing head kick early in round three which left Cormier staggered and on wobbly legs. Jones would immediately rush after “DC” and get him to the octagon canvas where he proceeded to unleash some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call a stop to the action.

Jon Jones returned to the octagon in the featured bout of last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim where he squared off with bitter rival Daniel Cormier in a rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship. After two very closely contested opening rounds, “Bones” was able to land a massive head kick to the face of “DC” in round three which left Cormier in all sorts of trouble. Shortly following the kick, Jones out Cormier on the canvas where he began raining down some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call the contest.

Tonight, on the main card of UFC 214, former Invicta FC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg will step into the Octagon against fellow former Invicta FC champion Tonya Evinger in a highly anticipated scrap for the vacant UFC women’s featherweight championship. For both contenders, the fight will mark the first time they fight in the Octagon at 145 pounds. While Cyborg has fought twice in the promotion, she has fought at a catchweight of 140 pounds on both occasions. Evinger on the other hand will not only be fighting in the UFC for the first time at 145 pounds, but also making her promotional debut.

Both men have made weight and the bout is official for the what many are claiming the best card of the year, thus far. Ahead of the fight, the stars took to the UFC 214 open workouts where Jones opted to just sign autographs for fans. Cormier did an open workout for fans and media and cut an exceptional promotion that had his fans pumped.

We have not seen current #1 UFC ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov compete since November of last year where he defeated Michael Johnson by submission in the third round. “The Eagle” was scheduled to fight #2 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson in a UFC interim lightweight title fight at UFC 209 in March. However, Nurmagomdeov suffered weight management medical issues hours before the UFC 209 weigh-ins and was taken to a hospital and the interim title fight was canceled. Since the mishap, Khabib has stated that he has been recovering from his medical issues suffered in March and was aiming to fight Ferguson first and then Conor McGregor in the Winter. McGregor has stated that a fight with Nurmagomedov in his home country of Russia is something that has his interest after his mega money fight with Floyd Mayweather in August.

As the world waits to see how the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor plays out on August 26, many are taking a look at their training videos to make early predictions. One video, in particular, puts Mayweather and McGregor side-by-side and compares the two fighters training. Mayweather is seen looking very quick and precise as he hits a double end bag while McGregor looks slower as he hits a much bigger, heavier, specialty bag. People have been comparing the two and are quick to assume that McGregor will have no chance when the two are in the boxing ring together.
