The UFC returned to the state of Florida this past weekend with UFC Fort Lauderdale.

In the main event of the evening, we saw the return of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza as he took on surging short notice opponent, Sweden’s “Joker,” Jack Hermansson.

After two surprisingly dominant opening rounds in favor of the Swede, the experienced Jacare would take round three before a rebound round followed for Hermansson. Jacare would then close out the final frame strong but it wouldn’t be enough as the rising contender would get the upset victory by unanimous decision.

Preceding the bout was Dmitrii Smoliakov who returned to the UFC for the first time since January 2017. Standing in Smoliakov’s way making his sophomore UFC appearance was the controversial former NFL defensive end, Greg Hardy.

The fight wouldn’t last long as Smoliakov was clearly afraid to strike with his opponent and it quickly led to his demise as Hardy scored the first-round TKO in just two minutes and 15 seconds.

Although it was just Hardy’s second fight in the UFC and it was Hermansson’s ninth as well as a main event win, the night’s biggest winner would end up walking away with a smaller purse than the heavyweight prospect.
