A handful of professional fighters, including current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, are set to star in an upcoming mixed martial arts film called Embattled.
Nicole Bosco was first to share the news amongst the MMA Community.
Actor Stephen Dorff, who is best known for his roles in Blade, Deuces Wild, and True Detective, will play the role of “Cash”, an MMA fighter who will be battling against his own son (played by Darren Mann).
The film, “Embattled”, has already begun filming in Alabama and is being produced by Nick Sarkisov.
If that was not enough to get you interested, the script of “Embattled” is written by David McKenna, who also wrote the blockbuster scripts of American History X and Blow.
“It’s been really important to me that the film feels as authentic as possible and that it respects the world of MMA – from the fight choreography to the commentary to capturing the intense feeling of being in the cage,” Sarkisov told Variety.com. “These guys are the real deal, and incorporating them into the film is helping us achieve that.”
The UFC’s reigning welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, is currently on the sidelines for 6-10 weeks, this after undergoing successful hand surgery.
“The Chosen One” already has a handful of movie roles under his belt and recently released his first single “I’ll beat yo Ass” which features Wiz Khalifa.
Meanwhile, fellow UFC fighter turned “Embattled” cast member Donald Cerrone is actually set to return to the octagon early next month at UFC Fight Night 139 in Denver.
“Cowboy” will be taking on welterweight knockout artist Mike Perry at the November 10 event.
As for perennial middleweight contender Eyrk Anders, “Ya Boi” will be returning to action on December 8 at UFC 231 against Elias Theodorou.
