Report | Bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre in the works

By Drake Riggs - October 29, 2018

After the biggest fight of his career at UFC 229, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov now seems destined for continuing the trend of landing fights that are on that same level.

Nurmagomedov has always had his sights set on taking on the ultimate challenges and has never shown fear when doing so. One of the challenges he has made it clear that he would like to take on is the arguably greatest fighter of all time, former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion, Georges “Rush” St-Pierre.

Despite having top contenders waiting in the wings of his class of 155-pounds such as Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier, it seems like the UFC may be interested in heading in a different direction as MMA Team Dagestan has now reported that Nurmagomedov vs St-Pierre is in the works. No other details are known at this time.

⚡️ KHABIB vs. GSP in the works. This is all that is known at the moment.

MMA Team Dagestan often covers and breaks news related to several top Russian fighters and prospects. Some stories include Mark Hunt replacing Fabricio Werdum against Alexey Oleynik at UFC Moscow as well as Alexander Volkov being the backup for Daniel Cormier or Stipe Miocic at UFC 226 if needed. And of course, Nurmagomedov’s big UFC 229 bout with Conor McGregor.

The most interesting thing about this fight being discussed, or any fight involving Nurmagomedov for that matter, is that he has yet to receive his punishment from the Nevada State Athletic Commission for his post-fight antics at UFC 229. His punishments, which are likely to be a fine and suspension of sorts, will be decided on December 10.

St-Pierre hasn’t fought since UFC 217 in November 2017 when he defeated Michael Bisping to win the middleweight title. He would vacate the title only a month later due to his battle with ulcerative colitis which is something St-Pierre continues to deal with even now.
