Islam Makhachev will run through Ian Machado Garry, predicts Sean Brady: “He really threw a wrench into everything”

Islam Makhachev will have his way with Ian Machado Garry if Sean Brady’s prediction comes to fruition.

Makhachev’s first UFC Welterweight Championship defense hasn’t been made official, but many are expecting Garry to get the call for a title bout. One can’t ignore the possibility that Michael Morales or Carlos Prates have impressed UFC officials enough to get that opportunity instead.

In an interview with MMAJunkie, Brady discussed the state of the UFC welterweight division with Makhachev as the champion. He noted that he doesn’t see Garry standing a chance against Makhachev.

“Islam coming up (from lightweight) really threw a wrench into everything,” Brady said. “Then obviously him winning threw an even bigger wrench. The division is kind weird. Who is Morales going to fight next? It’s a crazy division but it’s one of the best and hopefully everything keeps moving. There’s a lot of big fights coming up that will keep us moving.

“As far as who is going to win that fight – Islam is going to run through Ian. Simple as that. He’s going to sub him, for sure.”

Makhachev captured the UFC Welterweight Championship back in Nov. 2025. He turned in a dominant performance against Jack Della Maddalena, earning the unanimous decision win.

Garry has won two fights in a row, and his opposition has been noteworthy. “The Future” defeated former UFC Welterweight Champion Belal Muhammad and dangerous top contender Prates, who is coming off a TKO win over Jack Della Maddalena.

While Brady isn’t currently in the title conversation given his last defeat to Morales, he could get back in the mix soon. Brady is scheduled to clash with Joaquin Buckley on the UFC 328 card. A vintage performance would be ideal for Brady, but Buckley also knows what’s at stake.
